Potentially impacting all AI search engines and chatbots known to poorly paraphrase source links, a German court has ruled that Google is liable for false statements in AI Overviews.

The ruling came in a case flagged by The Decoder, where two publishers found that Google’s AI Overviews incorrectly linked them to scams and other sketchy business practices. After smearing publishers by making affirmative statements like “Yes, [it] is known for dubious business practices and is often perceived as a scam,” Google failed to correct the misleading output, even after the publishers sent a cease-and-desist letter earlier this year.

Google tried the usual arguments to shield itself from liability for false statements in AI Overviews, such as arguing that most users understand that AI outputs aren’t always accurate and must be verified.

For the first time, the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) has released its own recommendations for maternal vaccination, providing formal guidance that diverges from that of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention amid unprecedented policy changes and meddling from anti-vaccine Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

ACOG President Camille Clare blamed “changing national recommendations coupled with rampant vaccine misinformation” for the confusion among patients and health care professionals about vaccines during pregnancy.

“It is incredibly important for the public to have access to reliable, evidence-based information on maternal immunizations from a trusted source. ACOG is proud to be that source,” Clare said in a statement.

I can't get rid of it, it's obnoxious. I've tried filtering the element with my adblocker but it keeps reappearing. As much as I find Reddit useful (unfortunately), especially for information and discussion relating to my country, I will never install their proprietary garbage app on my phone just to use their website.

Oh well. I've used the Internet before Reddit existed, I'm sure I can get used to doing so again.

Paulo Figueiredo, grandson of General João Baptista Figueiredo, the last Brazilian president during the military dictatorship, is a far-right coup-supporting influencer considered a fugitive and currently residing in the USA. He is accused of participating in the attempted coup d'état of January 8, 2023, in Brazil, of working with US authorities to punish Brazilian officials for the legal proceedings against former coup-supporting president Jair Bolsonaro, and is a target of the fake news inquiry, which investigates, among other crimes, plans to assassinate politicians and judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court.

The influencer was a business partner of Donald Trump, a relationship that led to his arrest in the US for involvement in a bribery scheme at BRB (a state-owned bank in the Brazilian capital).

Figueiredo is selling a course on politics and history aligned with far-right ideas, having offered it to seven congressmen who support Jair Bolsonaro, a staunch defender of the Brazilian military dictatorship financed by the USA, on the eve of Trump's inauguration for a second term in January 2025.

This is not "plurality." This is not "respecting the other side." It is the normalization of figures who should be unanimously considered criminals for attacking democratic institutions and freedoms.

Given all this "operational error" by Proton's sponsors, I see that any user with democratic awareness on some internet privacy forum seems to be better than their global communications team.

THIS EXCUSE DOESN'T WORK!

Jucika drives a car (lemmy.world)

The "T" on her car stands for "tanuló", Hungarian for learner or student, because she's learning to drive. So, she's putting cushions on things that she might accidentally hit.

As always, stay tuned here on !comicstrips@lemmy.world for a slow trickle out of Jucika comics, but if you want to find more, here’s a good post with a large collection that /u/JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social posted last year: https://piefed.social/post/1258520
