Jordan Peterson was considered a "philosopher" I will never let Millennials and older zoomers forget this one.
As an elder millennial, I clocked him pretty much immediately. One of my best friends told me about one day about a decade ago and I was like "oh nah dude he's a total pseudo-intellectual don't listen to him", and thankfully he trusted me enough that my doubt swayed him to not go down that rabbit hole.
I remember watching one of his livestreams and growing frustrated the moment he started talking about Pinocchio with a straight face. I kind of saw the phenomena up close, just out of college and having attended some philosophy courses. It's not that the guy was a liar and a huckster. It's not that his disinformation was so blatant. What impressed me is how quickly his ideas were adopted by popular culture. This made me very disappointed of the internet and English speaking culture in general.
As a millennial, I don't understand how people (of any generation) can't see he's a giant fraud. He just talks around the point playing ridiculous word games trying to redefine common terms to suit his interpretation.
One of the things that always Baffled me about JP is how anti-philosophy he was. He always had this affect of the average youtube pop culture commentator; in that he seemed to believe that "making philosophy" was just making a convincing Word salad and dressing it with Disney references.
I'm a gen z person and I'm not from america
I know he's a piece of shit but could I get more context on "older zoomers forget this one"
I don't know what context is there to fill, there were a lot o people in the first wave of gen Z that followed Jordan Peterson. I feel this demographic is different from older millennials in that they were more religiously oriented. I've seen a lot of young men from protestant and catholic families.
