Hell I'm American and I don't even like these unnecessary behemoths. America gotta go and enlarge everything for no reason. Guys drive them because it radiates small dick energy.
Every time my wife and I get passed by another lifted 350, one of us usually goes, in a sing-song voice, "tiny penis" to which the other responds, *clap-clap-clapclap-clap"
Or at least we used to. It's so common now it's not funny anymore.
Car companies could make sensible smaller vehicles that give proper balance to comfort, safety, and serviceablility. Instead they want more money and to follow the least amount of regulations, so now everything has to be big and terrible for both the environment and people. They unilaterally decided "fuck everyone who isn't in one of our cars"
My city just installed another new lane down the main shopping area and made the existing ones wider to accommodate the huge spike in larger vehicles since covid.
So far it's caused several accidents because they shifted the lanes over and the lines are poorly marked right now, so some people are continuing straight while others swerve into them with the lines.
Also it's mostly to put in "turn only" lanes along the right side, but with how many people are turning it just congests as people try to "get around the slow traffic" and end up trying to merge with 2 car lengths before the intersection.
Yes, I have very strong opinions on these matters, how did you guess?
There's also some "good old" lobbying from what I remember, with SUVs and Light Trucks literally being de-regulated and "cheaper" at a time where normal cars were taxed. At least that's what I vaguely remember from another video of the same author: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN7mSXMruEo (he has links/proofs for his claims, everything I've checked or know so far was legit).
