Summary

Incoming Trump administration “border czar” Tom Homan announced plans to resume family detentions as part of a crackdown on undocumented immigrants.

Families with children will be held in tent-like facilities, and parents may face the choice of deporting as a family or leaving US-born children behind.

Homan, known for his role in Trump’s first-term family separation policy, also plans to reinstate worksite raids and the “remain in Mexico” program.

Critics warn these policies, ended under Biden, harm children and undermine humanitarian standards.

MAGA Jesus would drown Jesus.

Real Jesus can walk on water.

So if he floats, then he’s a Jesus!

Cruelty is the point.

By the way, I'm already tired of this blowhard

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Cruelty is weakness trying to impersonate strength.

"He said the Trump administration’s policy would be to deport families together but acknowledged that the government lacked the legal power to deport children who were born in the US"

Yet. They lack the legal power yet.

They'll likely get it during this next administration.

I think for this administration we should refer to them not as the "czar" of something, but rather the "hauptamptleiter".

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

How many Americans do you honestly think can pronounce a German descriptive compound noun? Maybe 5%?

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago

I guess you did nazi the joke I was trying to make.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 months ago

It's Amtsleiter, Amt means office.

I'd love to see Trump attempt to speak another language though.

I'm betting they want to build facilities to put hundreds of people together in cramped quarters concentrated together. There will be many of these along the border as different camps. If only I could remember the term for this type of facility...

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Here in the States they’re called “internment camps” so we can feel better about ourselves.

What is all this czar shit? Can we use real titles instead of this Russian shit

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

It is a media title, not an official title. The idea is to link the official to the practices of the dictatorships of Russia.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 6 points 6 months ago

I am so so surprised. Something so unsuccessful has to get another go.

I think that’s half true. Family detention centers will fill quickly as our government realizes the absurdly excessive cost of returning all undocumented immigrants to their respective nations of origin.

I’m guessing he either plans to use them as an excuse to funnel money into the prison industry or use them as free labor

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 11 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Then the program requests more funding / money, which gets pocketed by the privatized people executing on the plans.

This is all just a huge grift to keep people angry and scared, make people suffer, and steal money.

I hate all of these people.

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 8 points 6 months ago

It doesn’t have to be that complicated. Just house them overcrowded in tents in the middle of the desert, don’t provide them with facilities for life, and let them die. It’s what was happening last time. Read some of the accounts from people who visited the facilities and found unresponsive babies or people in obvious urgent medical distress.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Fucking musk airlines will be born and overcharge the government to deport people....

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You act like they're going to bother to send them back to their country of origin.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

The Mexican government has already made it clear that they will only be accepting Mexican citizens from the US.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

They will streamline costs by sending them over the line they crossed. Enter through the southern border? You go back to Mexico. Enter from the north? Straight to Canada.

They won't bother with sending everyone back to their home country.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, see the problem is that’s not legal. The nation of destination needs to accept them or they need to leave voluntarily.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Since when has legality been a factor in the matter?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Fair point, but in this case he’d be violating another sovereign nation.

We may not challenge his domestic crimes in the US, but Mexico and the UN may have something to say about violating international law. NATO could sanction the hell out of the US for violating an agreement we helped to create.

It would be a big swing for sure.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

When has violating a sovereign nation ever been much of a concern to America?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Trump has never managed anything like this before. His approach to foreign policy his entire first term was peacocking like bizarro Roosevelt.

If Trump were to send all immigrants to Mexico, I don’t think his buddies in Russia, North Korea, China, Israel, and Turkey will be able to relieve the pressure from NATO’s rightfully retaliatory sanctions.
