And it sure doesn't help that Fox News is playing 24/7 on military bases.

Governments should not be using Twitter. They should all move to Bluesky and Mastodon. If you still have a Twitter account please only use it to encourage people to migrate to other platforms. Don't use it for anything else.

equal time for opposing views

Regarding this you have to be careful to avoid false balance. Someone posted this image recently:

Sometimes one side is not equal to another.

Do not despair. Nothing in politics is permanent. It may be difficult but we can solve this together. Be sure to read this article to the end where it has the calls to action. Those are all good ideas. In addition I want to mention:

One thing everyone should do is vote in every election, even local elections.

Also specifically for when it mentions public funding try calling your representative and asking for this. It does matter.

In addition also work to defund right wing propaganda by calling advertisers and urge them to stop advertising on Fox and other right wing stations. Also if you have a TV subscription make sure the package doesn't include Fox News. If it's impossible to remove Fox News call the company and ask for a no Fox option. If enough people call they may one day offer it. This step is important because Fox News gets most of its money from carriage fees.

In addition boycott Twitter/X and also Meta (Facebook/Instagram/Threads) and switch to Mastodon and Bluesky. Make sure your friends do the same.

I think public funding with independent editorial control is the way to go. It's not perfect by any means but it's the best we have.

It's true. It's sad seeing how many people are still in the cult.

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 5 points 6 months ago (3 children)

I don't hope anyone suffers. I wish people could reflect on themselves and be better people.

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

The whole point is that not enough people are voting. Look at how many people stayed home in the most recent US election.

What I'm trying to say if people wanted to make a big impact on climate change they should organize and rally around people who want to stop climate change.

I got one word for you: Vote.

Corporations like BP push individual responsibility and personal carbon footprint[1] to try to neutralize you from achieving real policy gains which would have a much greater impact than your individual action. Time spent trying to convince people to vote for politicians who take climate change seriously is far more productive than time spent trying to educate people about their so-called carbon footprint. Of course we all play a part but seeing this chart it's clear we need more action and that's why I'm saying this.

Exactly! Twitter cost $44 billion but his wealth doubled from $200 billion to $400 billion after becoming President of the United States along with co-president Trump.

Yes, I just checked and confirmed Wordle is New York Times, not New York Post. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

I get what you're saying there. I should have read the article closer. Yes, you're right about that.

This has been a long standing conspiracy theory amongst right wing talk show hosts and other people. Basically the claim is that FEMA will imprison lots of people especially those with far right views using a emergency as a pretext. This conspiracy theory has been widely debunked already.

The interesting thing is now something like the conspiracy theory may happen in real life except ran by ICE instead of FEMA. I'm curious how people who previously propagated this conspiracy theory feel about Trump's plan for a mass deportation. If you know anyone who's into this conspiracy theory would you be able to ask them their thoughts on the FEMA camps and then bring up Trump's mass deportation plan. I'm curious how'd they'd react. Let's not assume because everyone is different. While trying to research this question I found one article from the right that showed deep concern about Trump's plan: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/20/deep-state-wants-terminate-constitution/ but I can't really find much information otherwise.

This article was posted shortly before the election but everything in there is still true and seeing his appointees perhaps worse than predicted.

I want to remind everyone that there are going to be elections next year in the US.

Local elections are very important because they will have a direct impact on you because you are choosing the people who will run your community and the people around you. Anecdotally I've heard that on the Republican side in various local governments are sometimes even more crazy than the ones at the federal level so it's really important that these people get voted out.

The process of finding out information on your local elections depends on where you live but typically you can Google/DuckDuckGo/whatever search engine you use your city name with the words 2025 election after it. Also do the same for your county and your state. Or you can checkout the article I linked for different instructions on how to find information about your local election.

Also please search for information on the primaries, these are very important because they will determine who is going to be on the ballot come election day. It could be the difference between a win or a lose in the election.

I know I'm going to be phone banking and knocking on doors. If you're going to do that may I suggest telling your friends that you're doing it and asking that they join you?

In addition when you find out information about your local election be sure to share that info with anyone like-minded and tell those people to pass the information on farther. You can post on local social media groups, make posters and signs, do whatever you can to spread awareness.

Let's make 2025 blue! We can do it together, when we unite we are strong!

I'm sure everyone knows what's at stake already but just to quickly recap the following might happen when Trump takes office.

  • No more free and fair elections.
  • Trump may abuse his presidential immunity and order hits on his opponents
  • Weaponize the government against political opponents
  • Raise food prices and harm the economy
  • Create a humanitarian crisis by deporting so many people
  • His appointees such as Tulsi Gabbard may give our secrets to Russia.

And so much more

Yet it seems like top Democrats in office are hardly doing anything about this. I feel they have abandoned us and gave up. My list isn't even everything that could happen yet with all those bad things I'm so frustrated they don't realize what's at stake. Please I really beg of you to contact anyone you can and urge them to realize what's at stake here.

Please see this link for helpful instructions on how to contact the President and Congressional members: https://guides.lib.berkeley.edu/ContactingOfficials/President

Sorry it's a few days late, I just saw this and thought it was really interesting.

Here's a copy and paste from the 1933 article:

Rise in Stocks Reflects Confidence He Will Not Disrupt Nation's Affairs

Berlin is settling down to pass judgment on political developments. Politicians, economists and bankers declare there is usually wide discrepancy between the speeches of opposition politicians and the actions of the group when it gains power.

Consequently, it is not believed that Hitler will accomplish a change in the constitution or that [Reich Minister of Economics Alfred] Hugenberg will bring about a general reduction of interest rates. The government wants to obtain an adjournment of the Reichstag for several months, but it is questionable whether the Centre [Party] will approve of such action.

Most people just want a good life. If we stopped seeing each other as the enemies the world could be better.
