For some tasks (e.g. web browsing), you need a GUI. CLI browsers won't cut it.

WHY is emacs at 360mb is the real question

The drive. Using Windows on a USB means constantly reading and writing to the USB, which wears it down.

Linux phones exist, but they're:

niche
bad software ecosystem
pretty expensive But, feel free to try them out. Pinephones are a thing.

Always remember: Your OS should do nothing more than provide a GUI for you to access apps and run apps. Anything else is not necessary.

additionally, it would lower the lifespan of your usb. just get an external ssd.
