Would switch 1 have done anywhere near what it did without pandemic? Every last model of the DS is still incredibly expensive on the aftermarket, due to pandemic. Before that used consoles of previous generations were pretty readily available at cheap prices.

Point being if pandemic made even a bygone generation of handhelds revitalized and holding value for 5 years. It's impact on Switch 1 sales cannot be underestimated.

We'll see how the holidays go for Switch 2 without the power of FOMO and existential nomadic existence.

Yes definitely. It's not that unusual even.

It's loading a lot of content locally, and very very slowly before you can even use it.

If they invented a powersource capable of generating enough energy for all human needs... I have a feeling it would be used to power datacenters instead.

And the right will use this media frenzy to further their anti-immigrant agendas.

What they did in the US is highlight criminals, then use that confusion and outrage to allow them to target all immigrants. So be really careful how you respond to what is being pushed to you about this. If your gut is telling you it doesn't sound right, or it doesn't align with your direct experience, be very careful you are not being used to condemn.

If this means the device is usuable and reasonably secure for 5 years, this is fine.

It precisely means that is not going to be the case.

I agree. And you know what, Facebook's sponsored algorithm makes more Nazis than Nazis alone. What we need is to be able to subscribe to community notes and misinformation alerts from trusted sources. There is room for everyone, even the fucking Nazis. We just need block lists etc. And before someone cries echo chamber, you know it's kind of up to you to monitor your "trusted" sources over time. Things change and being informed is being informed. Apolitical people or people too thick for ethical decisions just don't need an algorithm pushing political propaganda to their feed every moment of every day.

The phone will stop getting security updates in less than 3 years. It will still be a perfectly good phone by then. The battery won't even have degraded out of service life.
