I thought this was a given when they announced it tbh. Having those games be televised the NBA would be able to capitalise on those people that don't really follow the NBA.

Being able to watch a whole tournament (albeit smaller) without needing League Pass would be amazing. It's also a way to make people care about it, since apparently most don't.

They're going to package the whole tournament up and sell it to a streamer for the new media deal. (rumor today was Netflix, which previously hasn't been interested in live sports at all).
