Outside of the big 3, the İstanbul teams have 0 fans. 3 of them will probably get relegated this year, but we have Eyüpspor coming up so it's probably going to be 6 clubs next year

Do the top division teams outside Istanbul have big fanbases, or do a lot of people in those areas also support a big 3 side?

[–] Falcao1905@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Trabzonspor has a very passionate fanbase, but they can be considered a big club. Some teams like Adana Demir, Samsun, Ankaragücü enjoy great support and are able to fill their stadium. Other clubs have smaller fanbases, most Turks support the big 3. Some major city clubs with big fanbases are in the lower divisions, like Kocaelispor, Göztepe, Altay and Bursaspor.

Only Pendikspor and İstanbulspor is a relegation candidate, and i think Pendikspor has a high chance to avoid relegation

Isn’t Basaksehir Erdogan’s favourite team and also champions a few years ago? I’d think they would have some supporters because of that.

Hey do not disrespectful to Mr. Joachim Demunt from Hamburg. He has been attending Karagumruk games for 20 years.

Only existing Karagümrük fan and he isn't even living in İstanbul. Sums it up perfectly

Same here in Belgrade. But instead of the big 3 we got the big 2(FC Red Star and FC Partizan).

Getafe's stadium is like 20 min away from Atletico's, i don't know why they were left out

[–] NachoMartin1985@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Getafe is not Madrid, different cities.

Gala fener and besiktas are all from the same city? No way thats crazy. Imagine having 3 biggest teams in the league in same city

[–] Unlitch@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

and the narrative is so cool with fener being on anatolian side and gala on europe side. the derby between the two is named as the "intercontinental" derby. also beşiktaş is on the europe side, having the finest location for a stadium. when they win the league a ferry-show happens in the bosphorus.

7 of the 20 best teams in the history of the Super League do not play in the Super League. One team also closed down, but there is another team with the same name and city. In fact, only 5 of the 10 best teams of all time are currently in the Super League. 4 big teams and Ankaragücü, which is in 6th place in the best of all time ranking. There are no teams in the Super League from Izmir and Bursa, Turkey's 3rd and 4th largest cities. It seems boring to watch Pendik, Karagümrük or İstanbulspor instead of Bursaspor, Eskişehirspor or İzmir teams.

Still think it’s insane that Paris only has one club in Ligue 1. It’s a giant, wealthy megacity with so many different communities within it, and all they can offer up is PSG? Why are there no Paris equivalents of West Ham or Brentford or Fulham?

[–] drjet196@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And psg was founded in 1975. About 100 years later than the average London team.

[–] razzz333@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

French football don’t have as good history as one might think given their recent successful 30 years.

[–] AlKarakhboy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They also have an insane amount of talent. A paris born XI would probably be top 10 in the world among NTs

[–] ambianceambiance@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

same for Berlin. Its crazy there is only 1 club in the bundesliga, and this one not even belongs to the "big" teams like PSG.

Surprising to see 7 teams from London playing on the prem this season, felt like more. What was the PL season with the most teams from London?

Watford, Millwall and QPR are all in the Championship, which presumably is in the top 15 leagues?

Charlton and Leyton Orient are in League One which can't be far off if the Czech League is considered.

[–] ForcedReps@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Now do Buenos Aires metropolitan area

I feel the scope of this list is designed to be a conversation about Turkish football.

Competitively The Championship (England second division) would clearly be part of Europes top 15 leagues.

So it seems remiss to not include London teams like QPR, Millwall and (arguably) Watford…

[–] Batmanscousins@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Stockholm has 4! AIK, Brommapojkarna, Djurgården and Hammarby

[–] pirac@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How is Argentine or Brasil league not top 15 league...

[–] Dangerous-Spare7843@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was always convinced london had the most teams in one league by far, never realised this about Istanbul or expected it.

[–] paco-ramon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Half of the Premier is just London, it shows how centralized the British economy is in a single city.

[–] Juzek86@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Knew about Istanbul and London, but figured Russia would be top 15 (#26). Moscow has tons of clubs too, actually 4 in a league of 16 (CSKA, Dynamo, Spartak and Lokomotiv).
