Hi. I'm sorry for the weird question. I've searched the subreddit and found some info, but not enough. So here goes:

I share an apartment with my family. At night I have to reduce the sound on my speakers, which in turn makes me not be able to hear many things I am watching or playing, like ambience sounds or dialog. I've tried regular headphones but they usually start hurting my ears after a few hours. Do open back headphones have the benefits of headphones where I can hear everything clearly, while they aren't that loud to others and they don't hurt my ears?

When I'm watching movies, explosions will be loud so I'll have to reduce my volume, but in turn I won't be able to hear dialog because it's so much quieter than other sounds. I'd like not to have to turn my volume up and down every 2 minutes while watching a movie (just an example)

I would also like to be able to hear if someone is calling me from another room in case of emergency. Regular headphones usually cancel that sound out.

Thanks for the help, guys. I appreciate it.

Open backs are pretty audible in the same room but you won't hear them if there's a wall in between. Kind of like someone playing a video on their phone at very low level.
