Do you have a list of movies, games and whatnot to pirate this year?

I know I do, something to make the holidays a little more cheery since budgeting appears to be tight. I need something to make me somewhat happy.

The muppets family Christmas is a great one too.

It's like a cross over of all Jim Henson properties.

I was like Leo pointing at the screen the entire time.

Great movie.

Stranger things

PS2 games. I modded a PS2 as a gift for a friend.

[–] pedro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago

What's the go to for PS2 mods these days?

[–] lichtmetzger@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hell yeah, the PS2 has an insanely large library of games!

[–] flamiera@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 22 hours ago

Still holds the record of the most games that have been physically produced for it.

[–] trk@aussie.zone 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whatever the *arr stack provides me with.

It's actually insane how convenient the arrs and some import lists make things.

I open Plex, there's content to watch. If it's good, that's great! If it's bad, I give up halfway and delete it. The best part is it's stuff I never would have deliberately sought out so I see heaps of random interesting content I would never have picked at Blockbuster / the cinema / whatever the front page of whatever streaming service I had was promoting.

Arr + Overseerr keeps my family very happy. There's always something to watch.

I pirate monthly every IMDB 6+ movie and series that got dubs in my language and send an HDD to my father, who only has a cheap cellphone internet plan.

[–] moonshadow@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

You're a good son

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

That's adorable lol

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you automate that or just check the list manually every once in a while?

[–] PiraHxCx@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Manually. There is this group I follow, every end of the month I check what they uploaded throughout the month (their posts have the IMDB score).

[–] freeman@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How many movies is that per month?

[–] PiraHxCx@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Last month it was about 50 movies and it was a high number - I also don't download horror or Hallmark-like stuff.

My VPN software is being shitty and constantly disconnects, paid $70 bucks for this crap and I cannot find a damn solution. PIA if anyone is interested, and welcome to better options or insights to why I'm having this problem.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I used PIA for about two months about half a decade ago. It was pure agony.

I'm enjoying Mullvad.

[–] bktheman@awful.systems 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So crazy to hear this, I literally recommend PIA to everyone who asks. It's cheap and hasn't given me issues in 8 years of using it.

Plus it actually supports port forwarding still, unlike mullvad, unfortunately.

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I have PIA and haven't had a single issue.

And yes. I stick with it because unlike Mullvad, PIA hasn't pussied out (yet) and remove port forwarding

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm a pretty low skill user admittedly, I only just figured out how to set up Jellyfin on my media server. My situation is pretty simple for now, but if I end up needing a feature I don't get, I'll rethink my options.

[–] bktheman@awful.systems 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah gotcha, no worries.

You can get away without port forwarding if the Linux ISO you're trying to get has a lot of peers who DO have port forwarding. But your speed could be slower because of it. And if you want a more obscure ISO that doesn't have a lot of support, doesn't have a lot of peers, then your speed will likely suffer, and might not be able to download anything at all.

It's something to research. If you don't like PIA, proton also has port forwarding 👍

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ohhh that's good to know.... do they block p2p traffic?

[–] bktheman@awful.systems 2 points 1 day ago

I don't know about proton, I don't think they do. PIA works fine also

[–] bktheman@awful.systems 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's a bummer. I've had PIA for almost 8 years straight, it's been rock solid. I can count on one hand the number of issues I've had with them.

Granted, their headless Linux program, piactl, is finicky and not well documented. But once you get it dialed in, configured right, it just works.

Use it on my phone, laptop, several connections open at once, no problems 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Just read the second half of your comment. What's your problem exactly? Maybe I've ran into it before, no promises haha

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can go into more detail after work but if you Google PIA keeps disconnecting, I have tried basically every fix that doesn't involve regedit or cmd. I'm using the windows GUI, you think it'd be somewhat idiot proof. I have my torrent client tied to the virtual adapter as well so the torrent crashes every time it drops.

[–] bktheman@awful.systems 1 points 1 day ago

That sucks. Unfortunately I've never run it in Windows. I've run mostly Linux on everything for years now, I'm down to one never-used Windows desktop, and a VM on proxmox that I keep up to run a handful of critical windows-only programs.

I'm not sure I'd be much help to you

[–] ashughes@feddit.uk 11 points 1 day ago

Nice try, Officer, but I’m not falling for it.

[–] 4vr@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fallout. Isn’t the new season starts airing this week ?

[–] elvith@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago

IIRC release is in two days, but definitely this week.

[–] DrMartinu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

Youtubes fresh battle with adblockers has had me on a 6 month music video rip spree, with no signs of slowing down.

Right now Jdownloader2 plus a browser extension to copy cookie info to the clipboard is working half decently.

Once I started, I realized I can do a lot more with the videos now that they're off youtube. No more ASR subtitles, I can time lyrics myself using Gaupol. I've also figured out how to pack the new subtitle, as well as original thumbnails and YT descriptions into the video using mkvtoolnix. Now a single video file can be dropped into jellyfin and fully provide its own local Metadata.

It's going well and I'm not slowing down at all. Fuck you, youtube.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago

Whatever series I follow will be automatically downloaded with sonarr. But I recently downloaded Star Trek Voyager, I almost finished season 1 so I'll probably continue watching that during Christmas.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm still waiting for Zootopia 2 to come to streaming. I got a theater recording, but would love a higher quality rip for quality. This is just Sonic 3 all over again for me.

I would watch it on my parents d+ account when it drops, but I ain't giving them any more attention then I have to. Especially after the AI debacle going on between them and openai.

[–] SlimePirate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Respectfully, Sonic 3 was one of the trashiest movies ever made. Zootopia 2 seems interesting but I am scared because 80% of the time version 2 of a movie is twice worst

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

I personally really enjoyed Sonic 3. So, to each their own. I'm still holding up hope, based on some of the tempting video review thumbnails I've seen, so I'm hoping for the best. The optimist in me won't give up yet.

Nothing specific, but I was very pleased with how easily I could download some movies from jellyfin to my laptop before my flight home.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

NGL I kind of have everything I need except time. Gonna probably try to make space for animating in Blender, which unfortunately makes no sense to pirate.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

There’s plenty of paid tutorials out there. But that’s the one thing I’m happy to pay for. That and independent or small team software.

You can always try!

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

Yarr, maties! Me gonna pirate all them movies!

Arr stack is fully configured and is ready to go. In 2 weeks I will deploy RPi3b+ in a country where piracy is not punished yet. It will act as a proxy though Tailscale VPN. Got 12tb drive for my NAS and will order more later on. External UHD drive purchased and tested. I'm all set! LET THE HOARDING BEIGN!

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

I do the video club approach, browse once a week and download whatever catches my eye.

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Just my usual Ski Jumping vods, maybe some anime. Always look forward to the Four Hills tournament.

Have loads of game to play already, will start the Metro series soon.

[–] Burghler@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Adobe Substance Designer :D

I've been using Material Maker but I can't learn much from the 3 tutorials that exist, so I pirated the industry standard one with its 1000+ better tuts.

Also wasn't a good time using SD tuts while on MM, was very hard to find similar nodes/operations when following along. Made it much harder to actually learn what does what and why.
