This is probably something you have to get used to when using Graphene unfortunately. Just pack up and leave, there are tons of banks where the app works fine.

[–] Ludicrous0251@piefed.zip 7 points 1 month ago

There are also tons of banks that let you bank through a web browser, banking apps are hardly critical if you have a sane bank

[–] Bell@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They just lost a customer. This was on my list of apps to use but not if they are this dumb

[–] ChilledPeppers@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

I use it un graphene and had 0 problems this far.

As shit as it is there is a every growing list of things you had better just be prepared to not interface with on your phone if you are going to run a Android phone without Play Services installed.

Flip side to that is once I switched my Pixel to GrapheneOS without having access to things that only work right with Play Services the phone became way less interesting outside of phone, text, casual web browsing, and photos. Which is probably a good thing.

I can whole heartedly agree. Its almost like when you take the out the scientifically crafted environments that are designed to suck your soul and wallet out of the equation that your relationship with technology just gets better.

If you are interested, here is the book that taught them all how to do it:

Here is the book the same author wrote when he realised his kids were getting addicted to devices:

that's hilarious, thanks for sharing!

But why would Revolut do something like that? They will lose customers and it's not just in spite, I'd assume.

Edit: loose->lose, customers

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Terribly sorry, I try not to be a pedant about these things, but this is major pet peeve of mine. Up there with people saying "anywho"

It's "lose".

Loose describes the screw I have

Lose is what I do with my mind on the daily

I love you anyway, have a great day

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Anywhere exists, anyhow exists.

Why the discrimination against anywho and anywhy??

Who can do it? Anywho can do it? Why can they do it? Anywhy they can do it?

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

NGL, I'm racist against "anywho" because my sister says it and she's super annoying. Is it unfair? Yes. Will I change? Never

[–] Peffse@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

alright boys, we have a mission to take out SirSamuel's sister so we can use "anywho" again.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

I like anywho. It's whimsical

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 5 points 1 month ago

Thanks, learning never hurts.

[–] bilb@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mine is "hence why," I become irrationally irritated when I see it, but try to harbor no malice towards people I see using it.

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Irregardless, we all have our peeves and foibles

[–] cageythree@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

I don't understand either. What benefit do they have from blocking it (or what disadvantage do they have from not blocking)? There has to be some reason, no?

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

More like: Google gave developers an automatic “checkbox” tick way to block grapheneos users and everyone that doesn’t have a goggle play licensed firmware

Assholes

[–] kate@lemmy.uhhoh.com 11 points 1 month ago

If you’re in the UK then nationwide and monzo bank apps are confirmed to work

[–] BakedCatboy@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I switched away from Ally bank for similar reasons, on my lineage'd pixel 5 with gapps, their app would always fail the login the first time then succeed the second time for no reason.

Then the bank I switched to, greenfi (coastal community bank) completely blocked login unless I had play protect (in Google play) enabled, which allows Google to uninstall any app from your phone without asking if they decide it's a "security risk" or whatever - I can totally imaging them deciding that ReVanced / morphie / patched apps that block their ads to be a "security issue". Luckily greenfi was more understanding and they did something that allowed me to log in again.

[–] nofate@piefed.social 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How did you get greenfi working, call/email them? It used to work for me on graphene until fairly recently.

[–] BakedCatboy@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I emailed them at support@greenfi.com with basically the message "I can't login I get this message, what can I do to resolve this", went back and forth a bunch, did all the annoying troubleshooting reinstalling the app, clearing app data, etc, sent screenshots of the message, assured I wasn't using a VPN, sent all the details of my phone and rom version, had to poke them when they didn't respond, got a random message of them saying "we see you were able to gain access" and I had to be like wtf no I didn't?, told them it worked if I temporarily enabled play protect and said I would switch banks if I couldnt access check deposit which is mobile only, they replied with some justification why play protect is tripping it up, so I told them that I had no issues having play protect off with other financial apps like fidelity and chase bank, and finally got a response from a "supervisor" saying "i refreshed your settings" settings" and it started working.

Not sure if they just whitelisted my account or what, but maybe if enough people complain they will get tired of whitelisting everyone and change course.

[–] nofate@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

Thanks for the info. Before contacting them I had the idea of disabling the play integrity API for the app to see what would happen, and sure enough once I disabled it I was able to login again.

[–] LemmyEntertainYou@piefed.social 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good job I closed my Revolut account then.

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

I cannot close my account because they won't allow me to download their app in order to do it.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 5 points 1 month ago

Guess I'll just never use their shitty service: Sucks to suck.

[–] UncleOb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Thankfully I can still use the app, it seems they are rolling out these changes perhaps across test regions.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Wait, Revolut was broken on Graphene OS a year ago, then they fixed it and now they blocked it again? WTF?

[–] Dequei@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, same with Lineage. Deleted the account weeks ago.

[–] Sunny@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 month ago

Believe this started last year sometime, i packed my shit and left.

[–] BandanaBug@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

Works for me?

[–] yardratianSoma@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

well, I have no idea what a Revolut is (ah, a UK based bank? odd name), but I mean, they still could not stop web-based banking, right?

[–] KeithD@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 month ago

Not sure about them, but some banks have more features on the phone app than on the web. Bloody annoying.

[–] carrylex@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

I always like the random GrapheneOS/Daniel Micay populism Twitter posts with 0 in depth proof and just throwing around that ... is bad.

Don't get me wrong they have a point that hardware attestation is a shitshow. But statements like "It includes a bunch of closed source third party libraries with privacy, security and compatibility issues. Several of these libraries supposedly exist to protect security but in fact create serious security weaknesses." with 0 information what these libraries and issues are, are just unfounded accusations.
