"By precisely reflecting sunlight that is endlessly available in space to specific targets on the ground, we can create a world where sunlight powers solar farms for longer than just daytime, and in doing this, commoditize sunlight."
Not to mention too expensive. The base ticket prices have skyrocketed over 1600% since 1996. In just the seven years between 2015 and 2022, attendees with household incomes of less than $100k dropped from around 56% to 40% and attendees with household incomes of $100k-$300k+ have risen from 43% to 59%. Over the years, it's seemed like the crowd has been increasingly yuppie and increasingly white collar; these numbers appear to back that notion up. I remember seeing a video from a few years ago where Andrew Callaghan was talking about how he paid $10k for an RV spot and 2 tickets. He also complained that a lot of the people there seemed like "weekend-warrior-types". I can only hope that price is with an insane scalper markup or a super deluxe VIP package or something. $10k is an unthinkable price for a weeklong camping trip in the desert, even a really cool one.
That, the heat as you mentioned (I found a chart that demonstrates rising averages and most in the comments are saying the reported highs are far too low), and the floods last year I think have combined to scare a lot of the core demographic away. I dreamed of going to Burning Man for years, but I haven't even thought of it in quite some time since I learned how prohibitively expensive it would be to go.
When he tested the look at outdoor Los Angeles shopping mall The Grove, “Nobody recognized me,” Bacon said. But the tide evidently soon turned. “People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a f***ing coffee or whatever. I was like, This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.”
Lmao this has to be a joke. Is this really what life is like for these people? No one said "I love you" to a stranger at the mall? He had to wait in lines? Maybe the most eye-opening thing about this is that Kevin seemed to expect to be treated more or less the same way he is as a celebrity, just without the selfies, which says to me that he thought everyone gets treated the same way famous people do. Sometimes it's interesting to get a reminder of how out of touch these people really are.
You seem to have mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about either landlords or AirBnB.
Honestly, what’s the difference between doing this and being an actual landlord? Doesn’t feel like the landlord should have any right to complain as long as the rent gets paid. He’s just mad that someone else is doing the same thing he is.
You seem to be of the belief that street politics exclusively means gangbanging, but street politics is way wider than that. I never said he was in a gang because I know he wasn’t, but you’d have to be willfully ignorant to say that street politics had nothing to do with his death. Are you gonna tell me it was an accident next?
Tupac most definitely had gang affiliations with both Bloods and Crips even if he didn’t bang himself. If being as close to Suge Knight, a very high ranking member of the M.O.B. Piru Bloods, as Tupac was doesn’t automatically count as being involved in street politics, then I don’t know what would be. Tupac even had a M.O.B. tattoo and past members have confirmed his affiliations. Not to mention, Tupac was right at the heart of the East vs. West rivalry, something some people took very seriously, especially in a business as potentially lucrative as rap music. Do I need to remind you that Tupac had already been shot multiple times right in the studio building? If gunmen try to assassinate you twice over street politics shit, that kind of makes you part of street politics. I never said he was a banger, because he wasn’t, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t involved in street politics.
You don’t think it could have been street politics even though Tupac was very much involved with street politics? What legitimate reason is there for the FBI to kill Tupac in the first place? He was a little subversive, but nothing crazy. Why would they simply shoot Tupac in front of so many witnesses? You’d think that the FBI would be capable of a little more subtlety.
Border Patrol has a long history of destroying water stores left out for migrants. It’s usually plastic jugs that they slash open and leave behind to be found by the migrants, which is almost worse to find than just taking the water and USBP knows that.
No, this timeline started with “Shit, our calculations show that we might ruin the world in just a few decades at this rate. Oh, well. Probably best not to mention this to anyone.”
