U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he did not warn car industry executives against raising prices as tariffs on foreign-made autos come into force, telling NBC News he "couldn't care less" if they do.

The White House has been preparing to impose new tariffs on a range of consumer goods on April 2, a move that has drawn criticism from international leaders and concerns about potential price increases for consumers.

In the NBC News interview, Trump said his permanent tariffs on foreign-made automobiles would be a boost to U.S.-domiciled factories and was confident the move would lead to increased sales of American-made cars. "I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars," Trump said.

Too poor to buy a car, in a country that depends way too much on it without actual alternatives.

That will help strengthen the economy if people can't afford to get to their workplace.

You're assuming there will still be many workplaces.

Realistically, the banks will start offering longer loans, would be my expectation.

If you thought 6 year loans were already too long, wait til you start seeing 8-10 year long ones for new vehicles!

When he said revenge tour, he meant everyone who didn’t make him president in 2020 —including the minority that voted for him.

“I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars,” Trump said.

So maybe he understands what the tariffs do after all, despite all the bullshit he spouts.

At what point can the Canadian government just start seizing assets of US companies in retaliation of the tarrifs?

Oh this is going to cause the auto factory in Ontario to be shut down and thousands of jobs lost?

That's a Canadian owned factory now. Sorry GM. We'll make cars for ourselves.

He (and Biden) didn't care when the 100% tariffs on Chinese cars kept the average electric car price at like $60K, why would they care when Americans are paying $100,000 for an average car?
