Headphones

Got my hair cut today and therefore decided not to put my LCD-X on out of fear some little bit of hair somehow makes its way onto the planar drivers, and it got me thinking about what sorts of 'precautions' we have to take over much cheaper and more robust consumer grade headphones, but I do other things like:

When putting them into the pelican case, the 6.5mm jack goes in first so I dont end up stabbing the drivers (I've seen some horrific posts on this sub)

Plugging them into (or removing from) the amp only when it's off

Putting them on *very* gently

Am I paranoid?

I’ve had these for years and these were hand me downs from my cousin. I’ve upgrade to the HD650 but I still wish to keep these around. I can’t find any headbands that are available or in stock. Is there any way I can find the parts to repair these?

I've noticed that for some reason, if I put regular stereo speakers next to both of my ears and play music at low volume, it sounds better ("more 3D") than regular stereo headphones (probably because the brain interprets the sound in a "real-world way", using the shape of the ear etc). This is particularly apparent when you listen to stuff light Nightwish but the effect really varies from song to song. So I'm trying to find headphones that would have a similar effect.

I've looked at the different standards for spatial audio (dolby atmos, etc) and I know some headphones have this weird physical geometry where they go around your head and have 5.1 channel input but I don't know which ones I should look at for my specific need.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Coming from K712, HD600, HD380, and SRH1540. Other mentions Fidelio X2, Soundmagic HP150.

Been looking forward to trying my first planars, spent a lot of time searching and although I think I will end up having Audezes some day I got the Edition XS, since I already spent a lot of Black Friday money on audio plugins.

So they arrived today and I put them on. Behringer UMC1820 > Behringer Xenyx 802.

1. They are super comfortable. Granted I have a big head.
2. The build quality feels really nice, I've never had something so robust in my hands. (first planars)
3. Turned them on.
4. First notice: soundstage - big, the separation is so-so, the imaging is average. It sounds in between fluid and accurate.
5. Second notice: these were really hard to drive? I had to turn the volume knob to 65% for full volume. With the HD600 I can go 40%-50% max. And that made no sense given their impedance.
6. Second notice: dayum that treble
7. Had to turn it down on my mixing board. Like 50% down
8. Long term listening: dayum that treble. Kept turning it to 30% and then back to 50%.
9. Now I'm used to it. Treble is fine at 70% of its volume. Probably losing some hearing. But now that I got used to it...
10. Conjure One (chillout electronic, pop): AMAZING vocals, amazing polite sound, great soundstage, great balanced sound (with treble reduced by 40-50%)
11. The detail level are amazing. I'm hearing individual reverb settings on multiple instruments separated. I never knew that was possible.
12. Symphonic and progressive metal are great and expansive.
13. Pop: Great. Some sibilance.
14. Overall bass: not as controlled as I expected. It's very strong and I had to turn it down a tiny bit.
15. The mids are kind of recessed. I upped them a tiny bit.
16. I don't care if you don't like EQ.
17. Prodigy - Spitfire - a track I listen to measure how the headphone deals with high distortion in high volumes. It was almost up there in the clarity section, as if I've "almost reached my goal" in overall clarity. A BIT of distortion, but far better than what I get with HD600 or K712.
18. After an hour of listening I thought to myself: These kinda sound boring... Sure detail and all but they aren't as pleasurable as my HD595 or HD600.
19. Some time later on, I heard how they sound with hardcore EDM / DnB.
20. Dayum they slam. So they have my place in the rig until I get the Audeze LCD-Xs some day.
21. Robert Miles - Children. Amazing sounding. Deep, detailed, powerful. Got to love em, although they can sound a LITTLE thin and sibilant, I've grown to like em more.

I hope the burnout is real and they get better, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.

*very very rarely the right driver rattles but I've heard a lot of quality issues after like multiple returns with XS so I'm fine with these, wouldn't want to get a worse pair. I only consider these an entry pair until I get the Audezes. Then I'll give em to some young guitar kid or something.

I won't be returning unless I face some serious quality issues within return period.

Bought the Sennheiser HD560S after much deliberation. I considered the HD6xx, HD600, HD58x and settled on the HD560S.

Many people have said the bass is lacking in the whole 600 series except the HD660S2. I just unboxed these phones and plugged them into my FiiO Q11 connected to my PC streaming UltraHD quality - PC audio settings set to 32 bit/192KHz Amazon Music without any EQ'ing and find their sound, so far, to be quite satisfying overall. The bass isn't extended like on Bluetooth headsets, but it's not really lacking.

Currently listening to some Jazz, but they sound good with Electronic/ambient, 90s Rock

My appreciation to everyone on here who recommended these. They sound really, really good.

Hi all - I have been tirelessly looking for a product I purchased many years ago - it was tiny split loom cable wrapping, but instead of plastic it was silicone. I remember it doing an amazing job of taming microphonics through the cables.

I recently picked up a new pair of headphones and the cable noise is insane, but everything else is awesome. The physical store I bought the silicone cable wrap from is long gone and I cannot for the life of me find the same stuff again. I have tried to make my own by cutting silicone tubing in a spiral, but its incredibly labor intensive and I can only pull off a few inches at a time before I screw it up. Has anyone seen something like this, or maybe at least what it's called so I can track some down? It was hands down the best thing I ever bought for taming microphonics but it just seems to not exist now. The closest I can find is silicone split loom for wrapping fiber optic cables but its just too big.

Basically the title, I'm still unsure what the best way to do so is and I figured I might as well just ask what other users have done on their systems.

Also what music player do you use?

And if you have set up a dedicated system like an old laptop or raspi for streaming would you say it's worth it?

Yesterday I took advantage of The Source’s Black Friday sale and bought a pair of Beats Solo 3. They were brand new, at least I think. They look and sound brand new and they came in the box that was sealed in plastic. I just connected them to my phone for the first time and this is what they’re named. Could they possibly be refurbished or a return? Or is this something that was done during manufacturing?

Got it as a cheap backup during 11.11 sale since my daily driver dac is in repair, and as a portability option.

What can I say. Maybe this headline summarises.

Despite many reviews saying good things about it.

Here's my thoughts. I am commenting on audio quality only.

1. Everything is so smoothed out and slow, everything just sounds generic.

2. Some weird reverb and slow transients.

3. Recessed mids

4. Recessed upper highs, except for some upper mid instruments like piano which intensifies suddenly.

5. HUGE bass. But sony type background muddy sound pressure. Not detailed or textured. Beats have less slam.

6. Tonality is ok

7. Soundstage is flat in your head inside your eyes.

8. Weird left right out of sync sometimes, causing moving centre stage.

9. Need super high volume to get to acceptable quality listening levels. Mine at around 90%

10. the tips are so shallow that I had to insert it until the plastic body hurts my ear (I have changed it to the spinfit cp100+). Still sounds wonky after swapping tips. Normal tips are too loose on the oval shafts.

11. Tunings:

Default - Best of the bunch but still smoothed out

Basshead - TOO MUCH muddy bass! Sony bass boost from the 90s

Monitor - good for midrange vocals at higher volumes but anemic bass.

If you're an audiophille, look elsewhere.

If you're into it as your on the move backup for youtube and music when your main is in repair, it should be fine. (I broke my littlewhite 2pin when pulling them out with the cable)

Hey guys I am new to the IEM community or we can say to the music listening community. So I have a few doubts:

1. I have a budget of ₹5000 INR what IEM should I buy in this range (I was thinking about (Truthhear x Crinacle - Zero:Red).
2. Suggest me a Bluetooth module that I can use with the above mentioned IEM or the IEM that you age gonna propose.
3. Also suggest a cable with mic that I can use with the IEM for taking calls.
4. I was thinking about buying from HeadphoneZone as it's the only trusted site that I know of for buying IEM's. (It also has a Black Friday Offer coming up do you guys know the date for that?) PS : The ₹5000 INR are only for the IEM I will allocate extra ₹4000 INR - ₹5000 INR for the Bluetooth module and the cable with mic.

I currently own audio technica m50x but they’ve almost broke so I’m thinking of replacing them. I’m looking for a similar sound or better and was wondering if the m40x are better (heard a lot of people prefer them over the m50x) if anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear Mainly use them for recording vocals, casual listening and mixing

I know it's impossible to find new pair of headphones that are completly ethical, but if it is possible to buy some that are more ethical than others then I want to do that. Does anyone know if there are headphones that don't use cobalt or lithium-ion batteries? And in general that doesn't use and/or reduce their use of conflict materials? I don't know much about technology or headphones and I feel like I don't understand anything when I try and do my own research.

Or would something more powerful like the Fiio KA13 make a noticeable difference?

Hello, guys. I am new here :) Last three years i use audio-technica m40x with fiio k5 pro. I like this headphones but i want something better and with open backs. Right now i choose between three models: beyerdynamics dt990 or dt 900 pro x and sennheizer hd6xx. I have budget 200-300$.

I read a lot about dt990. Seems some people love this cans and some ppl - hate. I definitely like theу old-school design. DT 900 Pro x - new model, but how much it better then DT990? Its worth pay more then $100 for 900 pro x ?

I’m looking to upgrade my gaming headset during Black Friday and was wondering what are the best wired options when it comes to longevity and audio quality; I do not have a budget.

So my ear pads are coming unstitched and the foam is starting to spill out of both of them. Time for replacements. I’ve skimmed through some of the top results on Amazon as well as looked at the brainwavez site (they claim to be a kinda one-size-fits-most replacement). I’m just curious what y’all have tried, and if there are ones that are an easy recommend, or at least ones I should steer clear of. I hope I’m posting in the right place. Thanks!

Hello, I have recently purchased my first set audiophile headphones, I went with HD 560s after reading tons of reviews to clarify it was a great choice for gaming and music , As I'm also playing videogames and I wanted a headphone that would suit for both needs, I've had Hyperx Cloud 2's Before for 5 years, they did suit my needs and got what I wanted but it was time for an upgrade , And so far I really don't like my experience with HD 560's,, It's really uncomfortable on my head for long sessions, the grip is too much like it actually HURT me on the first day, Songs do not sound as enjoying, pleasing and soulful like it was, I have tried different EQ profiles, the one that Oratory posted aswell but I just simply cannot get the same enjoying experience from same songs, it just steals away all the musical experience and joy, it's missing sharpness, Treble sounds kind of grainy, Soundstage is.. off, Is it my ears that don't like "analytical" Or what's going on? Sounds is not as warm as it was on my last headphones, I'm running them with my FiiO K3 which I think is enough for running those headphones Its' been quite uncomfortable and disappointing experience so far unfortunately, I have seen subreddits people comparing HD 6XX's with HD 560s and why/how hd 560's are better, Should I get rid of them? If so , what kind of headphones would you recommend me buying? I just can't believe that my Cloud 2's sound better and enjoy music way better than HD 560's, I was expecting vice versa.
