Considering human hearing can only hear up to 20kHz why do some headphones like the HD 560s allow going to 38kHz?

The Dual Dynamic Drivers on the Blessing 3 are incredibly capable. Such a shame that they're not being put to good use, since the IEMs can actually handle a monstrous amount of additional sub bass, without any perceivable distortion (around an additional 6db of sub bass). Just fiddling around with wavelet, I was actually surprised the IEM could handle the default "bass boost" preset without any limiter. That's a bass shelf of around +6db on the sub bass, and absolutely no changes elsewhere. Why are they designing the drivers this way when they're not gunning for bassheads ? With this tuning, the Blessing 3 can outperform many of the bass focused IEMs in delivering clean and impactful bass, and yet the default tuning is the most conservative I have ever seen for a product of this class. All that additional bass is handled so beautifully on the Blessing 3 that it sounds like a completely different IEM. It is clean, rumbly, and doesn't cause excessive bloat on the other frequencies. Side note: for some reason, only using the IEMs wired and in legacy mode on wavelet produces distortion free sound. Enhanced session detection/running over bluetooth LDAC destroys bass completely.

so i got my first pair of iems back in may for my birthday and theyre ikko OH10's (the old version not the OH10S) which were like $200 so still a lot for me but way cheaper than a lot of other iems

but these are still the best things ive ever heard in my life by far and i dont understand how any pair of headphones can sound even better than this, like it actually feels like the music is inside my soul, i was listening to justin timberlake yesterday and was literally crying and getting goosebumps cause of how beautiful it sounded, and i dont even like justin timberlake 😭😭

anyways the reason im wondering is cause i kinda wanna save up for some even better ones that are a bit smaller cause these ones are kinda big for me and they start to hurt my ears after a little bit, but im kinda scared of spending a ton of money on headphones just for me to barely notice a difference, like do $1,000+ iems sound way better than $200 ones or do they just sound only slightly better?? and what actually makes one pair better than another?? like compared to my basic earbuds these ones are way louder, clearer, and a lot fuller and richer, so would more expensive iems just be even louder and clearer than these ones?

Does it even makes sense marketing wise? There was basically zero overlap in market positioning between Logitech and Jaybird, and they're not even using it to compete with Jabra and the likes. Just why?

Just got a pair used and don’t love the dip in the 1-4 4kHz area but also don’t love the change in the stereo imaging/soundstage (can’t tell if it’s both or not yet) from Sonarworks. Has anyone else noticed this? It’s obvious in all 3 different EQ modes that Sonarworks offers. Not sure how to proceed at this point because I’d like a little more 2kHz but I’ve never had EQ change the imaging so obviously before either. This is for music production.

I’m trying to change the battery of my beats headphones but I’m struggling to disconnect the battery connection section shown in the enclosed image. Any suggestions?

Recently I noticed that THD property of IEMs has no relevance for their price range.

Moondrop Kato for example has a THD of <0.15%, while the more expensive Moondrop Variations is <1%. Does that means that the cheaper Kato has 6.6x less distortion than the Variations?

I am starting to think that multi-drivers IEMs have more distortion than single dynamic. For example, Sennheiser IE200 has a THD of only <0.08 % - all recent Sennheiser IEMs have very low THD, they are all single dynamic. Is that why Sennheiser never use mutli-drivers or Planar? Thieaudio makes expensive multi-drivers IEM - suspiciously they never published the THD of their IEMs.

Planar is known for low distortion - IEM like 7hz Timeless has a THD of <0.2% but still can’t compete with Sennheiser’s dynamic IEMs.

The THD is usually measured at 100db, very few people listen to music at that volume level. However when the music swells in a crescendo section, with many instruments and vocals at full blast - this is where distortion happens. These ’climatic’ section are the best segment to test IEMs/Headphones. Lesser listening device will sounds harsh and messy, better ones will retained their clarity and resolution.

Dear HD555/595/598 users...

This headphone generally has a very high driver distortion in loud volumes or with a lot of bass, probably extremely amp picky. (well amp picky isn't an objective observation, getting distorted with a lot of frequency ranges is)

Nevertheless...

This headphone SHINES at low listening volumes. It's the best headphone I have for low listening volumes.

Which makes it also a very healthy headphone for long listening sessions and to fall asleep with.

The tonality is so great and tidy that even extremely complex music sounds amazing and cohesive as if you've put on some TOTL headphones although these headphones usually aren't detail cans.

If you haven't tried it, please try listening to music quietly and see the light!

For calmer music, try Bee Gees, Dire Straits, Kate Bush, classical, jazz, but really anything can work. Even EDM gets a special vibe.

I almost think they are meant to be experienced this way

I'm getting into audio and audio quality, and I'm wondering what is the best way to utilize the XM5s for accurate, lossless audio. I have the XM5s, the packaged 3.5mm wire, the Apple Lightning to Headphone Jack (as reccomended online for its built in DAC) and an Iphone with Apple Music.

Is it true that plugged in, using all of these, creates the most accurate mix, sound, and quality with hi-res lossless that is possible with all of these tools?

Recently bought a Blessing 3 from the 11.11 sale, but after testing it and comparing it against the Chu 2... I can hardly tell the difference. The difference is even more subtle when hooked up to my DAC, and I can tell there's an improvement in, for example, layer separation and bass (I unironically cannot hear a difference in the treble quality), but it's so minor that I wouldn't be suprised if I could chalk it up to placebo, or just that minor difference in tuning. Actually, I would go so far as to say that I enjoy the Chu 2s more because I like the sound profile more. The mids sound more pleasant to me, so much so that I don't really care for that difference in technicalities.

Anyways, just wondering if this is an issue with the Blessing 3 (i.e a defective model), or if it's an issue with me, like I just have a terrible ear for this sort of thing.

Pictured is Linda Ronstadt from the inner sleeve of her record "Don't Cry Now" from 1973. Can anyone tell me what headphones she's wearing?

Sennheiser have their Black Friday sales going on their AU site, and the prices are very good compared to most pricing here and considering the AUD is getting crushed right now. You can also use the code HONEYSAVE for a further 10% off. All prices below in AUD:

• IE200 - $143
• IE600 - $629
• IE900 - $1,079
• HD600 - $359
• HD660S2 - $629
• HD800S - $1,619

I'm personally considering grabbing a pair of IE600's to complement my SA6.

Anyone happen to know when native lossless usb audio will be fully implemented for android 14 devices (e.g. pixel 8)? It's been announced in beta for a few months now. I primarily listen with spotify for the selection variety and although it's not lossless the android mixer isn't helping either.

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you have some used headphones I can buy?

I have cancer and I'm going in for surgery in the next few days and I need some headphones for the trip.

Thanks

These are planar magnetic headphones that I've heard good things about their sound quality. But they are pretty expensive. Anyone who has tried them?
