I've tried a bunch of ANC earbuds over the years and all of them have had the thumping problem, some worse than others.

It seems that the earbuds with the least amount of thumping are ones where the skin contact surfaces are cushioned by silicone or some soft material. The Bose QCII are like this, and the thump is minimal, though still noticeable.

Bose Sport true wireless also have no thumping, but they're also not ANC.

The Sony Linkbuds (the ones that don't go inside the ear canal and look like little donuts) also have zero thumping.

Are there any earbuds out there that do have ANC which do not have thumping issues?

And I don't think it's the ANC that's causing the issue either since even with ANC turned off, the thumps are still there.

I'm trying to find a good headphones config for movies with a blue ray disc reader and an HDMI monitor. I understand only now the problems going for a bluetooth config instead of an easier FM wireless one and I already changed like four headphones / two BT trasmitter.

The first cheap trasmitter seems to amplify output signal, has 5.0 BT specification, coaxial/optical/aux inputs, USB-C 5V@1A power in but probably only SBC and maybe AAC support, while the second device is aptx LL enabled for sure but is a passive microusb 5V@500mA device resulting in a low volume on every BT headphones (like the weak Sennheiser HD 350BT), it doesn't have digital coaxial input I'd need instead of converting HDMI audio to analog thanks to my LG monitor doing that which is the only option I've got to use this trasmitter inputs (analog in or optical in only).

Does a bluetooth trasmitter with internal amplifier exists with modern features (aptx for example) and with digital coaxial input? I'm sure the first cheaper device I've got do amplify trasmitted audio and I'm using it with a Panasonic RB-M300BE headphone and sound is loud (even louder with aux in already a bit amplified before from the monitor HDMI>analog output) but not as advanced for latency and quality codecs.

I recently bought a pair of cheap (by your guys standards lol) headphones “soundcore Q20” and im pretty happy with them, i can only run one channel at a time though.

I am not an audiophile. I have only owned the hd 599's prior to these two cans. I haven't seen enough reviews about the amiron homes so I want to give out my opinion. I will be comparing them using dekoni elite velours.

Comfort - amirons are slightly more comfortable because they're lighter and less clampy but I'd say 5% comfier. I wear bigger glasses too

Looks - both look nice! I prefer dt 1990.

Accessories - I didn't have stock dt 1990 cables because I bought them used and only had the coiled cable so I bought a replacement cable off Amazon. I prefer the dual headphone like the amirons. Only had the analytical pads from the dt 1990 but I use dekoni pads. Amirons have a nice carrying case unfortunately won't bring them anywhere due to being open back and requiring an amp.

Sound

Treble - to my ears they are similar but the dt 1990 are brighter.

Mids - dt 1990 just have the liveliness to them that the amirons lack. Dt 1990 are more intimate regarding soundstage so it makes the vocals quite more enjoying. The males sounds the same maybe due to the midbass bump. The females are a different story maybe because the 1990s are brighter. Someone like sia and Adele just sounds more full and much more enjoyable. On the amirons they sound too far where their vocals cannot be truly represented.

Lows - amirons are more warm but the dt 1990 have more detail on the bass.

Soundstage - amirons are wider and the dt 1990 are rather more intimate. The amirons sound too wide where detail is lost.

Instrument separation - dt 1990 wins but maybe because everything seems closer due to the more intimate soundstage it is allowing me to hear it better?

Detail - amirons are close in detail compared to the 1990 but not close enough. I will choose 1990 every time maybe due to the more intimate soundstage just makes everything as I said earlier. Basically the amirons sound too far away to pick out all nuances

Overall the amirons sell for $150 bucks less average. Personally I would buy the dt 1990. They both have great build quality although the wires on the 1990 are concerning me. The amirons are wider and more warm and the dt1990 are the opposite being. A little more intimate with better mids and detail. I am going to buy the hd 600 after writing out the mids section lol. This was fun to write although it was a bit of a mess. I think my points were good enough

So half a year back I bought the dt 1990 pro and I am here to compare the dekoni pads of what I have purchased. Zeos review was pretty accurate but I want to give a non audiophile or experienced opinion on the pads I have. I am running it off the asged 3 from Schiit by the way switching between low and high gain. To my ears the low gain is flat with some bassy yet the high gain brings out the opposite mids and definitely highs adding a little excitement. All are comfortable in my opinion although the sheepskin can get a little hot in Florida. Welcome to the most unprofessional review of headphone pads. You are welcome Dekoni.

Choice suede - the soundstage didn't change to my ears except for these pads. These are wide! The bass hits! It has the bass of the sheepskin without the shouty and stuffy sound. The treble energy shows me why people hate these cans (they weren't too much but I can definitely see why) the mids are good as good. These are intense! Good or bad? Depends! I like it but I have to go back to velour because it's rather exhausting listening to them.

Elite velour - to my ears these are the flattest headphones I cannot hear anything bad about the bass like people say. The highs didn't bother me stock but these are pleasing to my ears. These are almost boring coming from choice suede. Btw these are the most airy sound of all. They sound like the most open instead of semi open which all the rest sound semi open.

Elite hybrid - these were interesting because zeos said it brang out vocals I would say more brings them forward. If that means the same I'm not sure it just sets everything else little behind the vocals. Just like the sheepskin little stuffy sometimes. Energy and everything just becomes trapped inside.

Elite sheepskin - no. Don't buy these. The whole sound is trapped inside just a mess of sound lol there's bass buuutt makes them sound like crappy bass head cans.

I recommend just buying the velour cheapest and best! I'd love to hear people's comments to what they hear. I also have amirons but nothing but velour goes on them lol. Any other pad destroys the sound.

Granted, I've only been using the Edition XS for a couple of hours. I have the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite IEM's as well. I like the Kiwi's much more. I feel like I can hear more detail and I just like the sound of them more than I do the Edition XS.

Also, My ears still touch the pads inside the Edition XS and it drives me nuts. I guess I'm just sticking with IEM's going forward because I have not been able to find a headphone that doesn't bother the heck out of my ears and I've tried quite a few headphones and returned due to comfort issues with my ears. Freaking stupid dumbo ears >_<

I have the Kiwi's EQ'd and they sound amazing and I can't get the Edition XS to match that. Am I nuts? I feel like I'm nuts from all of the reviews I've watched and read.

I have a number of IEM’s jh audio, moondrop, noble, tin hifi, you get the idea.

What I’m looking for is a custom fit ear tip that I can change between IEM’s, does such a thing exist?

I’ve contacted a few companies after a Google search and they all tell me that I’d need to buy a separate tip for each pair of IEM’s.

I’ve been using ANC types (AirPods Pro and XM3) for years and I thought they were really good. Spent a week on reviews and decided the weight and comfort is really important to me, I get neck aches from desk work so the lightweight design sold me. And Dan Clark seems like a good guy running a legit small business, in his videos.

I love how I can hear the subtle details in vocals I couldn’t before. Like saliva, throat and breath sounds. Feels more real and human. Let’s see if I still get goosebumps after this honeymoon period.

Is FiiO K7 good enough for it? I have to turn the amp vol to 80 for it to sound satisfying. Is this usual or a sign of a weak amp?

I am currently using the Corsair headset, mostly because the Fnatic one isn't working (the cable between the two cups is cut), and I also prefer the Corsair sound, BUT I prefer the Fnatic "case". I think you already figured out my idea, do you think I can swap the Corsair electronics into the Fnatic shell? And if yes, which tools do I need? Will this DIY require soldering? I'm interested in Etymotic IEMs, I know they cause discomfort for some - I use Mack's "roll-up" foam ear plugs when working around machinery etc. (or even sleeping in loud places) and do not have a problem with them, is the Etymotic "experience" similar at all?

So my set got channel imbalance (left side was quieter), and I thought it was most likely due to the damper getting dirty/wet. I tried to clean it, but ended up damaging it (yeah, I'm dumb and I suck). Now the channel imbalance is gone, but the left side sounds shouty as hell.

There's no warranty anymore and I contacted Moondrop about the repair, but it might end up costing up to $200. I asked if they'd sell me just the damper, but they said no.

Now I want to see if I can order it from some of the DIY sellers from aliexpress and try to repair it myself, before I buy just the left earbud from Moondrop.

I just ordered the HD 660s2 yesterday but unfortunately today I read somewhere that the newer headphone has lower quality components than the original 600 series headphones due to the increased cost of the materials in Europe. Is this true?

Introduction

​

The Chinese company Thieaudio, which produces electroacoustic products with a determination, is well-known and respected in the audiophile community. Particularly their one IEM, the Monarch MKII, is highly regarded and adored by many audiophiles, including me, for being one of the best sounding IEM in the world and costing less than $1,000. I personally own a Monarch MKII, and the truth be told, I am enchanted by the sound quality it produces. I use this IEM as the standard against which to judge other in-ear monitors. Putting aside personal experiences, Thieaudio not only sells IEMs but also gorgeous cables. They recently released the HYPE2, a budget-friendly IEM. Since this is the first in the line, I'm not sure what happened to the HYPE, but today I'll be reviewing this IEM in a unique way because it's a special one. Lately, I have noticed that many audiophiles are having bad experiences with their units. These issues can be either cosmetic or internal.

Specification

​

Two dynamic drivers that areå isobarically positioned and two balanced armature drivers make up the Hype2's four driver configuration.The new generation sonion P2356HF and E25ST001/D super tweeters, which handle the mid and high frequencies, respectively, are the balanced armature drivers. The two dynamic drivers are the result of the IMPACT2 design, which employs two 10mm subwoofer dynamic drivers in an isobaric configuration. Along with the interiors, the exterior is also attractive and upscale.The faceplate has a really lovely pattern that shines more brilliantly in the light, and the shells are made of medical resin. Additionally, the shells' ergonomic design and small size fit the ears well and prevent pain or fatigue even when used for extended periods of time. The cable that comes with this IEM is one of those premium cables that look and feels exquisite when it is used with high-end IEMs. The cable has a two-pin connection on one end and a straight 3.5mm jack on the other, but the 3.5mm plug was broken because I received a damaged package. In order to accept the cable, I soldered a 4.4mm balanced plug. A carrying case with the thieaudio logo, three pairs of silicon eartips, three pairs of foam eartips and one microfiber cloth are the only additional accessories that are included.

What I think of the sound

​

As the majority of audiophiles are aware, once a hype train for a tuning gets going, everyone wants a piece of that pie. I have been testing this IEM since last month in order to determine precisely what is new in the IEM market. So, when I talk about the HYPE2, I'm talking about my month-long experience with it. This time, I wanted to determine whether the IEM is truly worth the money or if it is the best of the best. Obviously, this is a subject matter of mine, but I am confident that the IEM brings the mid-fi segment to its knees.

What I like most about the sound, then, is that it is undeniably alluring and has a balanced response that tops any IEM when it comes to striking the ideal balance between tonality and technicalities. It seems as though a 2 ba 2 dd wouldn't be very good at presenting the sound because it is so beautifully done. This dynamic quality of the mix keeps your senses tingling not due to how potent it becomes but rather due to how it flourishes and provides you with a calming experience. This dynamic quality of the mix controls the entire response and creates a fantastic balance between each region.

Although the clarity and details are lacking, it does bring smoothness and fluency to the energy transitions between the treble, midrange, and bass. My personal opinion is that the upper treble is airy and transparent enough to allow for a well-rounded and wholesome response; however, details are another story when compared to IEM like Blessing 3. With a stronger emphasis on clarity and forward response, the lower treble has better energy and allows for better exposure to instruments and vocal high notes, which sound full and organic. The mid range, nothing sounds out of place and everything sounds so harmonious and expressive with great control over the notes, whether it is in the lower mid range or upper mid range. Particularly when I talk about the vocals, the closest explanation could be that they create such an enveloping sound that satisfies every desire you might develop. When it comes to the bass, the sub bass is the main focus, and its extension is very deep and resonant, sounding very dynamic and thunderous, strong, and punchy, while the mid bass blooms well together, making the slams sound impactful, which they do successfully. However, I find it really pleasing that it doesn't interfere with higher frequencies, change the response, or overflow the mix. Although some listeners may perceive the overall response as having a v-shape sound signature due to bass exposure, it is overall a balanced response that is smooth, captivating, and enveloping with a fuller and richer response and no offensive sounds, making it the one to rule them all.

Is it really the Baby Monarch MKII ?

​

Although many audiophiles have discussed this IEM as being little Monarch MKII or a close replica of the Monarch MKII, this is not what I believe. The thieaudio tuning signature, in my opinion, is a characteristic that is deeply ingrained in both the Monarch MKII and HYPE2, but they don't sound the same. The Monarch MKII's spacious sound gives it a somewhat relaxed tuning and a leaner sound, whereas the HYPE2's sound gives it a slightly aggressive sound with a more full-bodied and rich response that allows the vocals and air to infuse and blend together to produce an overwhelming sound. Compared to the Monarch MKII, the bass is more supportive of the lower notes and better able to pull the lower mid range. Even though the vocals appear to be slightly recessed on the frequency response graph, the HYPE2's presentation puts the vocals more front and center. I guess this is because the treble lacks an expansive response. When I talk about stereo exposure in imaging layering and separation, the characteristic I mentioned earlier appears to be similar. So while I do think that both IEMs produce a somewhat similar response, I won't refer to the HYPE2 as a "Baby Monarch MKII."

Where does it stand around its competition ?

​

I became confused when I turned my attention to IEMs in this price range because most of them sounded excellent in their own right; comparing them would be pointless because each would satisfy whether it be the new blessing 3, falcon ultra, or quintet. It appears that Hype2 produces a flavorful response that strikes the best balance between the previously mentioned tonal and technical accuracy. It is enjoyable to hear the HYPE2. Of course, it doesn't compete with the DUNU Falcon Ultra's pure DD thick organic response or the Moondrop Blessing 3's lean and incredibly detailed response, but I still believe that the HYPE2 offers what the other compromised at, namely the technical prowess or tonal quality. I promise that the blessing 3 sounds good, but the HYPE2's male or female vocals simply sound more authentic and natural. The vocals on The Blessing 3 sound leaner and clearer, but they don't grab your attention the way that HYPE2's vocals do, which I believe exclusively elevate monotonous or vocals that are layered on top of one another in a complex mix thanks to its best-in-class stereo imaging and layering. The smooth and upfront exposure turns out to be a better setting for my ear to handle even though they don't come out very contrasted. As I noticed when I reviewed the Ultra, it seemed that each region when in mix were louder subdued other region to become the star of the show which from an overall aspect it sounded an overflowing mix which gives you an idea of rich and fuller response, I think that composure or the segregation in the mix between each region to sound fuller as well as balanced cannot be fully accomplished by a DD. So while I don't think the Hype2 is the best IEM for everyday use, I do think it is more capable overall than other IEMs.

The beginning of the song serves as the ideal demonstration of how well imaging capabilities are conveyed; the bass and electric, which blend but sound completely distinct, create a distinctive response. The cymbals that emerge from the back sound loud and clear, and the vocals have a light expression with good note weight. A sense of realism is created by the vocal sets' or vocalists' harmony. Generally speaking, the notes are distinct and far away enough for me to easily identify the source of the sound. I really enjoy this song, but the addition of the HYPE2 elevates the overall effect to a whole new level.

Another of my favorites, the male vocals really go low and high smoothly with accurate note weight and clarity, allowing for a clear response that separates the vocals from the entire mix and presents them in an open space, creating a richer, fuller response that fills the head stage and envelops your senses. The female vocals sound clean and natural, not overly light or heavy, but just right, allowing for a more alluring exposure of the female vocals. I really enjoy the instruments that fill the far left and far right walls completely and give the sound of a surround system. The stage has an ordinary but holographic feel.

Oh boy, this song really grabs you in the middle and calms your mind. When I listen to it on HYPE2, however, the holographic presentation of it almost gives the impression that the song is playing in a small concert hall with the vocals being too close to the listener and the enticing notes clinging to their minds. It may be the first time I've heard the violin completely separate from the piano in the mix while the vocals are being the focal point of it all. This is especially true at the beginning of the song when the vocals work their magic and the instruments blend together while still sounding distinct. And as soon as the drum starts, it delivers a broad, dynamic hit that feels powerful, impactful, and yet controlled. I thought the vocals already sounded very open, and the HYPE2 gave me more experiences than I had anticipated.

A. R. Rahman and singer Sukhwinder Singh produced a masterpiece. When the bass notes start to play, they really define a faithful reproduction that grabs your attention and complements the vocals and other instruments. It sounds expansive because the vocals, whether they are male or female backing vocals, are so wide-ranging and open. Well, it's the magic of the song's composition, but the impact of the strong notes gives the song a deep, powerful sound.

The sources I mainly used

Sony WM1A

The vocals had more room to breathe, sounding more staged and composite on the HYPE2. The total response is a really velvety and smooth response. The HYPE2 was also easily powered by the WM1A. The tracks' bass-forward sections sounded more thrilling and resonant because the bass was more dynamic and deep. Any track I heard sounded smoother and more pleasant when I heard it with WM1A, in my experience.

Tempotec V6

When I heard the HYPE2 combined with the V6, the first thing I heard was how energizing it sounded. Whether it was the treble, midrange, or bass, the entire mix sounded more precise and expressive. Compared to the WM1A, the response sounded more direct and aggressive. The biggest setback was the disappearance of the richness and pleasant natural reproduction, which brought more precise details to the notes. Well, I still favor a laid-back presentation over one that is transparent.

iFi Hipdac

Although it appeared that Hipdac's effects, which mostly emphasize the bass, had little effect on the HYPE2, there was unquestionably an aggressive front in the midrange. I can tell that the voices got too front and too powerful for me, as if they had lost their poise, while the treble sounded close and as though it had been saturated in air. However, listening to bass-heavy music did cause the treble region to be softer, especially when I turned on the XBASS. Oh no, the impact and thump got so intense that not even I could stop myself from embracing the resonance and physicality of it.

HiBy R6 Pro II

When listening with the Hiby R6 Pro II, the sound wasn't particularly unexpected or different in terms of technical or tonal performances, but that is what I initially perceived. After giving the pair a good deal of listening, I felt that the details were more refined and the energy rose a notch in the mix, which made the stage more satisfying. However, the response was not particularly interesting; I think it is the IEM.In my opinion, the R6 Pro II brings out the true value of this IEM, and in my opinion, this is the response I fell in love with. The correction might not be with the R6 Pro II but with the IEM itself as I already feel the IEM is perfect. It's possible that other sources have manipulated nuances in the mix to make it sound distinctive.

I would go out of my way to urge everyone to purchase this IEM because, in addition to satisfying your need for a pure, dynamic sound, it will also, and I mean this, gratify whatever need you might have. Everyone will be moved by a reaction that is clear, balanced, and has the ideal balance between tonality and technical execution. The guidelines on how to get the finest sound out of an IEM have been established by HYPE2, and other businesses should abide by them.

Hi, I recently got a pair of Focal Celestee and I love them. But I only have a fiio k3 amp/dac and I'm wondering if this bottlenecks what I get out of my headphones too much. If so, would for example schiit modi/magni stack make much of a difference? Thank you!

Is it worth it to use an apple usb c dongle to plug in to a macbook pro, or is there not much a difference from the 3.5mm jack on the computer.

I’ve wanted a set of LCD-X for a number of years now and finally saved up enough to get my hands on a pair.

They’re my first serious headphone so I don’t really have a point of reference to other offerings on the market, but they’re just as enjoyable to listen to as my Neumann KH120 which is saying something.

They feel beautiful in the hands, and despite my concerns over weight, they’re incredibly comfortable to wear. The distribution of the weight works wonders.

I’ve paired them up with a SubPac for tactile bass, and it’s mind-blowing how enveloping the sound is when they’re both dialled in.

I still have mixed feelings on the Oratory preset, but the more I listen, the more my ears adjust.

Ok…so this has been a struggle for me for a while. I like to game. I like to listen to music.

Been using turtle beach headsets for a while until I decided to get something different.

Bought Beyerdynamic Custom Pros off marketplace that came with a basic antlion mic. They were in OK overall condition, but the ear pads were messed up. Although I really like the way, the original ear pads felt, they were super gross. Bought some velour pads that were recommended for the headset.

What I like about the head set:

-Look relatively cool compared to other headsets I’ve had

-sound pretty good. I can’t tell the difference between good and bad sound since I don’t have high quality headphones but they sound good to me.

-mic has a mute toggle instead of just a button you’d have to keep holding

What I don’t like/wish they had:

-replacement pads weren’t as comfortable as og earpads. Head started to hurt after prolonged use

-no volume control on headset which makes it extremely annoying to try and hear other people IRL or if I need to tweak the volume quickly in game I have to go through game menus instead of easily turning a volume dial on headset.

-the god damn fucking cables that I need to get everything connected. Fuck cables.

So I’ve decided to try and get something else

Here’s the thing. I just want to get one set of headphones that I can use for everything. I want to be able to use it on my PlayStation, and on my Xbox, and anywhere else if I wanted to. My PlayStation headphones would not work on a Microsoft console and vice versa because Microsoft requires a proprietary chip to be in the headset for it to work on their system. I’m sick of being tied down and getting caught on things with the cables. It’s just too much cabling and sometimes feels a little heavy. I wish I had the OPTION of going wireless or not.

I’m in Canada. I’d also love to keep the cost below 150 at the highest if I can.

Hello everyone!

I’m a huge silent disco fan, I have a group that often does them on the beach or at a camping site.

I can find surprisingly little about the headphones commonly used online. Most of what I’m seeing is just information from companies looking to rent them or very generic “reviews” that are mostly affiliate links. I can't find information about what type of headphones they are, who typically makes them, what their specs are, or really anything. There are a ton of companies selling them but obviously they are not manufacturing them.

A couple questions:

1. Does anyone know where these companies are actually getting these headphones and what type they are? Any place that I can compare some specs?
2. Has anyone ever tried creating their own silent disco setup using a radio transmitter and wireless headphones? Would be curious if there are any high quality versions of what most of these companies are doing on the cheaper side.
