I recently spoke to a music store In relation foe me to get a set of studio monitor headphones for studio reference and for some listening pleasure which I was advised the Bayerdynamic dt770pro 80ohm. I was told the 80ohm would run perfect on my focusrite scatlett 2i2 3rd gen and when I plugged it in I got no more than 10% sound and even that the sound was nothing special. I mentioned this then was told I need a headphone amp which I went and purchased the Mackie hm4 from there website as I was told this has to be the issue and to my disappointment when I plugged them in I got the most distorted muffled bass mids and even highs...I have heard that there ment to be flat but this is non listenable to the point with the amp over 40% the sound is like a set of speaker cones blown. I have been collecting music gear all my life and a set of monitors are what I want to get to maybe help with my music production but also be able to use when my son is listening to loud music so I can concentrate or even plug them into the xbox for gaming. I'm asking this because I am a very unhappy customer and have been advised to get the 32ohm model when I don't want to do lower after buying an amp. I am looking at a set of Audio-Technica M50xBT2 and a set of Yamaha hph mt7 and I want to get a set that I am happy with. Everyone is trying to tell me there is no low end no mid with flat monitors but this is on another level I couldn't listen to anything. What I'm asking is are the audio technia Bluetooth any good for what I want or the yamaha...I have yamaha studio monitors and a yamah home cinema amp..I want the best sound possible but it seems I'm going round in circles! Thanks everyone

I’m new to using EQ. I find I have to increase the volume going from no EQ to loading an EQ profile. Do I increase the preamp back to 0db, or leave it and increase the main volume?

I recently bought the Crinacle Dioko and am not super happy with the tuning on it, I do really like the tuning for the Truthear zero reds though. I Don't really know how to eq correctly so can someone give me settings to make it sound more like the zero red?

Ebay has refurbished 9600s which was I thrilled about to dip my toes in HiFi sound.

For only 28 bucks I feel like I got some very good cans and it leaves me some cash in case I want to try a higher end ones down the road.

I tried bose quietcomfort 2, sony xm5, apple pods and sennheiser momentum true wireless 3. None of them works as intended. I loved sony xm4 but the battery started failing after a software update. Any suggestions?

As the title says.

I've a small collection of headphones, none are difficult to drive, have three Beyerdynamics, of which I only use one often, and my mostly used currently would be the Hifiman 4xx.

Very happy with the sound I get out of them at about 50% volume on the Zen Air DAC (tried the Zen DAC 2 at first and then the Air and didn't hear any difference between them to justify the €100 premium) but recently I've been wondering if it would be worth it to add the Zen Air Can to the setup and thus, getting a nice little iFi stack going.

On paper, the Zen Air Can would add plenty of power and a "balanced" output but would it be worth it, would I be getting anything of value ? And is Xspace worth it ? Haven't found much being said online about it, at least not enough to form an opinion.

Please do keep in mind I am not really interested in other amps and I've limited myself to €100, which is the price of both the Zen Air DAC and the Zen Air Can.

Begginer here! I've been messing with some of the EQ on my tangzu wan'er, trying to find my favorite tuning in order to get a nice pair of quality iem.

Anyway, I setteled on a weird m-shaped tuning, it is quite bright and clear but not harsh, and it still has some bass kicking and an overall beefiness to the sound. I'll add a picture of the graph for reference.(Its from wavelet graphic EQ, beware it is only up to 8k hertz)

The thing is I just can't seem to find any iem that has a similar graph, honestly most of the iems have a slightly wavy line throughout the bass to mid but pretty balanced and only get whacky at the very high frequencies, am I missing something? Or do I just have a weird taste?

In my right driver I hear a high pitch vibraty rattle like sound that seems to resonate when certain people talk over a voice chat.

Switching the R and L cords does nothing so I know it is specific to that driver. I took off the pads and I can see hair has worked its way past the dust filter and is laying against the driver itself. I tried taking it all apart but it seems that the screw/nuts are covered by some glued on fabric type cover so before I really do some digging I sent out an email to HiFiman support ( waiting on a response ) but figured I could also check here.

Anyone know how to get the hair out/ if there is any possible cause?

Thanks!

Evening all,

Just as a bit of a back-story; I would say I am someone with very good hearing, who can notice small nuances that others may miss. I have been producing and mastering others music for about 7 years now, so audio quality is a must for me. I have owned lots of different pairs of headphones over the years. But my daily drivers have been a pair of QC35's, I have always gone with Bose.

For the first time I decided I try out Sony, given all of the amazing reviews of the WH-1000XM5 I decided to try them out, and I was surprised. It seems like the right ear has way more bass (and therefore a higher volume) than the left ear. This is where I had this idea, given all of the great reviews, and the obscure nature of my issue, is it just my hearing going?

I suppose this is a double question, how do you guys and girls differentiate between your personal listening profile vs the response range of the headphones? And for people who have switched brands have you noticed changes in the sound profile that make a new pair of headphones sound 'annoying' or 'unlistenable'?

I'm looking to upgrade my earbuds and buy something modern, but I am fairly privacy conscious and avoid downloading unnecessary apps when possible, especially when it comes to big tech. I usually prioritize FOSS repositories and github projects.

I'm noticing that all the big earbud providers nowadays want you to download an app to use their earbuds, and if you dont you lose a lot of functionality like ANC. Is there a way around this? Are there any popular Github projects that work as alternatives? Generally, I'm most interested in the Galaxy buds2 pro, pixel buds pro, and the Sony xm5; but I'll look at alternatives if there is an open-source way to utilize their functions.

Hi there, bit of a long shot but I'm looking at picking up some T90s for cheap and was wondering if anyone who has a pair could say whether they've got a strong clamp force or not? I have a large-ish head but recently had to return Amiron Home's because they just sat on my head.

Thanks!

I recently ordered the HD 650s and the Qudilex-5K and was wondering if Spotify's audio quality will be a good enough music source for my untrained ears. This is my first audiophile setup.

You can’t name a single headphone that has consistent reviews here. And not only that the reviews aren’t consistent, they are compeletly in contrast to each other and you can’t get any useful info on products because of that. I’ve been looking around for a headphone that i can upgrade to and after 2 weeks of watching reviews on YT and reading people’s opinions here, I am pretty much convinced that there is no point in reading nor watching the reviews here and YT.

I also do not understand the overly negative feelings people have towards different headphones. It almost feels like 75 percent of reviewers here are just fan-boys of a single brand and are trying to destroy other headphone brands.

And I’ve been into the hobby for about 4 years now and I know the terms people use and what they by them, so no I’m not confused by terminology or anything like that, I’m just frustrated by everyone here thinking they are absolutely right about everything (sometimes even about things they haven’t even tried)

Hey all, I'm a very very casual headphone guy so pardon my ignorance.

I'm currently using a pair of Audio Technica ATH-R70X with the Focusrite Scarlet Solo 3rd gen audio interface and Schiit Magni Heresy amp. I love these headphones but I want to try getting a different sound out of them. I'm thinking of trying the Schiit Valhalla 2 tube amp since I know tube amps sound much different from solid state amps. But first, I wanted to start small and see if there are different cables for these headphones that I can use that would alter the sound. Is that even possible? I was looking into Hart Audio Cables.

Thanks.

Where can i find someone that can replace the cable for me? Is there anyone that provide such services?

I’m planning on picking up the Hexa sometime soon as my very first pair of IEMs but I’ve heard that the physical comfort can be a hit or miss so I’m wondering what other tips people use to make them a more enjoyable experience. Thanks!

So my wife was sitting at her computer, I was sitting at mine. My wife was listening to music through her PC speakers and I was sitting there with my DT770 pros on playing a video game. I was able to hear her music and the game she was playing.

I would like to not hear what she was listening to while I’m playing a game.

Passive noise cancelling doesn’t work in this situation… what are some good active noise cancelling wired headphones I can use? Bluetooth is not an option.

Thank you!

Over my time I have gone through a lot of earbuds, 5 earbuds ago I decide to document how much they cost, how long they last, signs of breaking, also my opinion and experience.

I get the earbuds that are wired, no wireless or Bluetooth. Although wireless may last longer I prefer the wired earbuds because I forget to charge the wireless all the time.

You have to note I MANHANDLE my earbuds and constantly use them 24/7. I hold them by the wire dangling my phone when I drop it and when I'm not using them they're getting mistreated.

So take in mind these brands can do better in better conditions. This experiment is extremely harsh conditions that doesn't involve out right breaking them.

Also most of these are going for less than 10$ dollars at most 20$ because I'm broke. I'm willing test expensive ones if someone mail them to me for free.

(I will add the previous 5 brands I used this afternoon, when I get my tablet that has all the data)

I am bought some Shoks this week, and I have been playing around with them. I have heard stories of people hurting their hearing by playing too loud. I want to avoid that. I am having a hard time figuring out what volume is too loud. I understand that generally, if it starts hurting, it is too loud. However, that isn’t as cut and dry with bone conduction headphones.

I can put music or a podcast on, and set the volume to a comfortable level. If I then put my finger inside my ear canal, my ear starts hurting instantly from the loudness. My question is, what am I supposed to aim for as a max volume, the noise level with my ear clear, or with my ears plugged.

I ask because in the research I have done, I have just found generic advice like “just don’t go above 60%”. I don’t find this appropriate, because I have podcasts that are mixed differently, and have different loudness on the same volume. I want a better way to tell if the headphones will work for my use case.

My use case for these would be mainly cycling, and a bit of walking, in a city environment. I would listen primarily to podcasts, but music occasionally.

Thanks for the help.

I've decided I want to use EQ with my Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, but I've noticed there are two different versions of his preset with different sliders. There's one on the AutoEQ website which, if I download the Peace file, looks like this once imported: https://i.imgur.com/V7goeNF.png. But then Peace also has its own AutoEQ setting built in, and the oratory1990 preset on that list looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/sP96mZS.png. To me they both seem to be trying to do the same thing but the settings are different on each. Both are meant to be his parametric setting for the HD 650 but both are different. Is one more correct than the other?
