Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

how do i back up IDM list of downloaded files when reinstalling without keeping the registry?

do you have to export the registry as describe here if you want to backup the list of downloaded files or those that are in progress, as mentioned here https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/register/new_faq/functions17.html ? my os is a mess and i prefer if i the default "export to IDM export file" from task menu of IDM works. i am not sure if importing the exported IDM file would confuse the program in my newly installed win 11.

Just export the file list it should still keep progress as well if you copy the idm download folder to a new location. The cache folder where downloads are still ongoing can all be stopped and copied although if one file is stopped by the server it might request a new address.

i have no ongoing downloads and just failed downloads i am too lazy to redownload and not in a hurry to use (but they may be useful to me later)

so to confirm, i should just use

"tasks->export -> export IDM files, all"

and all failed and successful downloads will be recorded into that file? reading it using a txt editor it seems to look like this
