Why do you say that? I think it couldn't be a more perfect description of the two.

Because it's a not well known phrase in French, including an accent mark and everything. It screams of trying to be fancy and trying to look smart. It's sounds like an akshully fedora kid
Waddaya mean not well known? For me it's in like... the top twenty of french expressions.
While that may be true, I think it's a very safe guess that a significant majority of english speakers have never heard of it
Given the desolate state of the US educational system... mhhm, true.
