“BD” refers to Franco-Belgian comics, but let's open things up to include ALL Euro comics and GN's. Euro-style artistry from around the world is also welcome. ^^

* BD = "Bandes dessinées"
* BDT = Bedetheque
* GN = graphic novel
* LBK = Lambiek
* LC = "Ligne claire"

Requested The Collected Toppi: Vol.1 The Enchanted World from my library's interloan service, and the library that responded gave me Vol 1-3! Three library loans for the price of one, haha.

I dig Toppi's linework. He's a very technical artist, and the work is very detailed and intricate. I'm also a sucker for black and white comics, which is mostly why I requested him after seeing a few people recommend him online for b&W bandee dessinee. The stories from Vol. 1 are all dark fairy tales basically, they're quite short and simple in the storytelling, not a lot of dialogue or plot. But damn, are they atmospheric.

If you have a local library, you should definitely check if they have an inter-library loan service. The majority of comics I have requested, they've been able to find. I also got The Collected Crepax Vol.1 from them as well, which I'll post when I get the chance.

Been in a B&W type of mood, if you guys have any more recommendations, let me know ;)

edit: Also, noticed that lemm.ee scaled the image, so here's a link to the larger original in all it's glory: https://ibb.co/prxDH8Hs

Oof, I didn't see this post at the time because of a settings issue, but here goes...

I find Toppi's work just amazing, and one of those guys who are not just technically and artistically brilliant, but also bringing their own, inimitable style to the table, like Moeby and Rich Corben, let's say.

I also must admit that I'm generally not a fan of B&W, altho there are some exceptions. Jacques Tardi easily comes to mind. Okay, let's see... Guy Delisle's amazing Shenzhen & Pyongyang travelogues. The two masterpiece District 14 series, if you don't mind the art being pretty loose. (incredible stories, tho) And the work of Norway's Jason... Bastien Vive's various works, some pretty wild and NSFW, others more conventional. And last, we might possible call Jim Woodring an honorary LC artist; in any case, his wordless comics are spellbinding an utterly unique indeed.

Yeah, let's go with that list for now! :D

That's a fantastic list of recommendations. I have only encountered Tardi briefly, but I can't remember the work. I do remember liking his style though. Didn't he do Adele Blanc-Sac (I think it's called).

Woodring's stuff is generally pretty fantastic and wildly weird. Been awhile since I had anything by him. His work reminds me of what would happen if you took old 20s-30s cartoons and had the animators drop a few hits of acid.

Rich Corben's horror work in the 70s/80s was phenomenal, truly one of the greats.

The rest I'm not entirely familiar with, but you've given me some stuff to keep and eye out for. Thanks!

Yeap!
Me, I find it good, while eccentric. Rather dated at this point, but still fun to read...

District 14, if you can find it...

I'll check it out. A surprising amount can be found through the library inter-loan service.
