A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Explain the cookie dough to me please. That one doesn’t make sense to me
Sushi is raw fish. Cookie dough is raw cookie. And some people eat raw cookie dough as a thing; there are cookie-dough ice cream flavors, for example.
Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi is vinegared rice.
Correct. If anything, cookie dough would be sashimi.
I know about the ice cream, I’ve had it before. I never really saw it as raw, just as another ingredient or flavor, but I guess it makes sense.
The cookie dough they use in cookie dough flavored things is safe to eat, mainly the raw egg is not there.
There's no way they would purposely sell us anything with immediate health risk that can be easily pinned on them.
Also not all sushi is raw fish, some is cooked. Improperly handled raw fish can be very dangerous, so only eat it at places you trust (I.e maybe not the buffet or grocery sushi).
The problem with cookie dough is the raw flour, not the raw egg. You can make cookie dough for eating by roasting the flour.
This works best if you roast all the ingredients together. I like to take my cookie dough and mould it into fun shapes before roasting, gives it some lighthearted humour
I think they mean in a mass production environment. Raw egg would require a lot more additives and preservatives to keep the product safe to eat and from spoiling quickly, something eggs are infamous for. Also the occasional salmonella outburst and recall and lawsuits. It's just one of those things people avoid.
But you are right, you can totally eat raw eggs safely if they are fresh
In an industrial environment, you'd just pasteurize everything before making the dough. You can do it at home (I want to say it's something like 60C for 2 hours, but don't take some rando's word on time and temp). There are a few brands that sell ready to eat cookie dough.
Raw cookie dough isn't save to eat in general though.
You can make raw cookie dough that is safe to eat as well by altering the recipe slightly to replace the egg with alternatives or, industrially, it can be pasteurized which most all store-bought cookie dough will be made with to reduce their liability.
The egg isn't nearly as much of a problem as raw flour.
Agreed but people act like it is
Lot of people love to eat the cookie dough raw.
