Why is the solution to Canadian oligopoly always "let foreign corporations in", instead of fostering growth of small local businesses and coops?

This also applies to telecom...

Because the oligopoly just buy up all competition

Why they’re allowed to do that…well the Reform Party has over a 99% chance of majority in polling atm

Yeah and we did that to ourselves allowing them to steamroll us like that

... and I wouldn't mind if our Canadian government wants to keep the damned oligopoly if they could just tax the hell out of it and stop giving them government hand outs

When the only tool you have is a hammer...

Cause the Canadian government cares more about foreigners than they do about Canadians

Of course they can - they could undercut Loblaws by a large margin and still make a fucking killing.

I'm hoping for Alcampo.

Or they could suck up a bunch of subsidies to get started, then sell their subsidiary to Loblaws. Foreign company gets cash, and Loblaws gets even more market dominance. Everyone wins!

Wait that sounds familiar. 🤭
