I'm a municipal planner and I can't afford to live in the city I work for. It's been two years and I'm still commuting 50 minutes each way because there is nothing suitable to rent in my price range for my family. My partner and I have a decent down payment saved up but even paying 15% down we're still looking at 3000 a month for anything anything that isn't a 1br condo that is too small for us.

We make a combined 135k a year.
