Hi, I have a friend who loves watches and restoring watches and he would put a basic movement in an old watch that he would buy from an estate sale. I see it as something very respectful because instead of letting the watch go to waste, he is reusing it. He doesn’t intend to sell. What do you guys think about it? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Doing it as a passion project for his own use. Very cool. As long as he makes sure he isn't altering some rare and sought after piece I'm more than okay with this practice.

If he was doing this commercially to sell, then I would feel a bit iffy about it though. It's easy to misrepresent, and a significant number of watches might go through this alteration.
