Anyone wearing a "Pogue."

[–] Karmacoma77@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Anything that’s not a household name like Rolex, Omega, Seiko, Citizen, etc…. If I spotted a Nomos Glashuette on a wrist I’d know. An enthusiasts will likely have these brands but they don’t give it away.

The same goes for fashion watches like Invicta, MVMT, Shinola etc… those generally aren’t enthusiasts.

G-Shock can be tricky, even enthusiasts will wear those.

If I see someone wearing a Zenith, I definitely think they are a watch nut

I’ve got a Sinn 104 St Sa I, a Seiko SKX 007 & a Seiko SARB033 & not that I’m some self proclaimed watch nerd because that really isn’t the case but whenever I get a compliment I always feel like this guy knows 🤣

Smiths — you have to REALLY want it

All the answers on this post is a great example of exactly why watch nerds are a problematic bunch of people.

All the mentioned brands are no way exclusive or indication of anything, they are just marketed differently but all operate in the same industry. Someone buying a GS is just as much of a consumer as someone who buys a Rolex or Omega. Y’all spending similar money for the same shit. C’mon people.

I think you missed the point of the question. It’s not about better or not, there are certain watches that fly under the radar unless you’re an enthusiast. There’s no judgement in what you’re wearing. If I saw someone wearing a rolex black sub, very strong chance they aren’t an enthusiast (they could be but just odds wise they aren’t !), If I saw someone wearing a rolex comex sub, I’d have a really strong indication they were really into collecting

JLC, IWC, Gerard-Peregeaux, Blancpain for sure. Probably any vintage mechanical watch as they have to be pretty in to watches to bother maintaining them.

[–] Spickernell@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

a mechanical alarm, like a memovox or a bellmatic, etc...

Casio Oceanus. Nobody in their right mind is going to pay 500+ for a Casio

[–] taszatt@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

GS very high hit rates. In my experience, GS wearers really know what they wear.

Stealthy as non-watch nerds thought it was a $hundreds seiko
