Yeah civ5 with vox populi is scratching the 4X itch for me. 120AUD is a little steep for me, I might check it out on a free weekend or for a large enough discount. I feel like with civ you've also gotta factor in the hundreds of dollars of DLC that's bound to come out.
I think I paid like $5 aud for civ 5 including all SLC, which was my first foray into civ so its definitely given me unrealistic expectations, but meeting even halfway would be way more palatable
