Hello r/Watches ! the reason I'm creating this post today is that I want to buy my mother a watch with my first salary. Even though I follow this subreddit, I can't say I know a lot about watches nor I have the budget for them. So, I need your expertise .

In our family, there's a tradition of buying a gift with the first paycheck (even if it wasn't, I would still want to buy one), and my mom gifted a watch to my grandma with her first salary. My grandma has been wearing the watch my mom gave her every day for 30-40 years. So, it's important to me that the watch I choose is timeless and suitable for daily wear. My mom usually wears silver jewelry, but I know she has worn gold-colored items due to gifts we've given her in the past. My budget right now is 1-2k € but if you think there's an exceptional watch that's worth a bit more, I can be flexible.

Thank you all in advance for your recommendations and ideas.

Such a sweet idea! Nomos has already been mentioned, but I can second this. I bought my mom a Junghans Max Bill which is a great alternative if you want to stay at 1000$.

Also can't go wrong with a Cartier Tank although that one is a bit over 2000$ (definitly worth it).

All those are available in gold and silver.

That's a great idea. For that budget you can't go wrong with Longines. Great watch for the price.

If you want something a little cheaper, Hamilton is a good brand.

As I mentioned in another comment, I really like the Longines also they really look like the one my mother got for my grandma.

I’m a big Nomos fan. Pretty simple design. Good value for the money.

Rado ladies watches are reasonably priced and good quality. Many have the odd diamond markers. Quartz under 1000 easy.

Cartier. The brand has a lot more pull with women than men. The other brands are more well renowned with guys. Cartier is stronger with women imo.

I’ll search more of them, it seems there are many models with different prices

Longines for sure. I bought my mum a Longines Prima Luna and she loves it. I bought my wife a Nomos and she doesn't like it tbh. I think she would like it more if it was on a bracelet. I have both a Longines and a Nomos myself but i don't think I would buy another Nomos.

Longines has some pretty amazing value for money in the 1-3k range.

Longines or Hamilton are perfect options from excellent brands

Do not overlook a Grand Seiko. Might be the best quality to price ratio out there.
