I’m a fairly new NBA fan so obviously I didn’t follow the league when these guys got drafted. But I’ve done reading up on it and Anthony Bennett, Greg Oden, and Darko Milicic are the three that probably come most readily to mind when I think about this question.

My question is who are some of the sneaky draft busts? The guys you consider huge busts that don’t really get talked about as much when this question comes up. I’d love to hear about some of those guys and learn some more about NBA history.

Dante Exum was taken 5th in a supposedly deep draft. Injuries and other things kept him from being even semi good.

McDermott cost 2 firsts that ended up being Nurk and Gary Harris

Sam Bowie.

Maybe not fair for the same reason as calling Oden a bust isn’t fair; injuries heavily shortened their careers. But, again like Oden, he was picked exactly one pick ahead of who ultimately proved to be the best player in the draft.

Oden was picked ahead of KD.

Bowie was picked ahead of MJ.

Justise Winslow, a decently effective player for the 10th pick, but Winslow was no ordinary 10th pick

Heat turned down FOUR 1sts from Bos for him?? Sounds insane now.

And he was in the best possible situation to develop, still underwhelmed. Sneaky bust,

Beast in the NCAA tourney though fun to watch on that elevated court

Not the typical player you’d think of in this conversation if busts, but Evan Turner.

Honestly there are none bc this sub is so quick to call everyone a bust

I never consider Greg Oden a bust because injuries happen and when he played he was a very good player

Sam Bowie, 2nd player selected overall the year he was drafted. Pick number 3 was wait for it, Micheal Jordan. If all you did was compare stats between him and MJ during their last season in college plus add in Sam was a 7 footer and Portland already had Clyde Drexler, at the time it seemed like the right choice to make.

Anthony Bennett being arguably the worst bust in history overshadows how awful the career from most lottery picks in that draft where.

James Wiseman. Him and Bagley are fighting for last bigman rotation minutes on the Detroit Pistons. This spells out no P.T or playing in only garbage time.

Dragan Bender

As a Warrior’s fan I think it’s time to call James Wiseman a huge bust. He was in 2020 draft and went 2nd before Lamelo and is now struggling to get minutes on the pistons.

Anthony Bennett, Number 1 overall pick 2013 and averaged less than 5 points in his 4 NBA seasons.

We can probably just rename this thread “LOL Wolves” 🤣

Sadly, Brandon Jennings. Michael Carter Williams. Tyreek Evans. Adam Morrison. They broke out that first year but never amounted to anything afterwards.
