Why is there no real injured reserve in the NBA, it's kinda crazy that u don't get a roster spot when guys go out for year

It's called a Disabled Player Exception

That doesn't provide a roster spot

I was of the understanding that it does

Hardship exception does and that's only temporary when 3 players are out.

Remember in covid times?

The closest thing to this are the two way contracts. They can only play a limited amount of NBA games, so usually you'll put them in when you have rotation players get hurt or rest. Warriors did this heaps last year with Ty Jerome and Anthony Lamb. And this year you can have up to 3 two way contracts.

it may seem odd, but there is more room on an nba roster.

in the nfl, you need a bare minimum of 25 players to play a game. your active roster is basically double this – 53 players. and the potential for injury is massive.

in the nba, serious injuries are less common, and you can play the regular season with something like a ten-man rotation.

Still u could have 4 or 5 prospects who fill out ur depth. 2 long term injuries, 2 short term injuries. 15 can go quick.

No IR doesn't make sense.

They have to file for certain benefits, through the league office. Injured player exceptions, suspended player exceptions, etc

The fact you only need 5 on the floor at any given moment and there aren't as many positions that need specialty replacements. Not to mention positions in basketball aren't nearly as skill specific as they can get in say the NFL. ex: A QB is never going to be an Linebacker but you can see taller PGs run the 4 or 5 on albeit quite rare occasion.

Just talking out my butt

It's not only NFL, every sport other then basketball has an IR
