Man, I don't know. I don't think there can be any good "off the cuff" answer to this question.

Topics related to contracts and employment are always going to be sensitive. Silver is not the sole "ruler" of the NBA. He can only speak in generalities, which fans will point to as fake / empty words.

But I think it's still good for Barkley to speak out though, put a spotlight on this topic. It would be good when he finishes asking and then goes "I know this is a hard one out of the blue. You don't have to answer now, but I'd appreciate it if you can take this back to the league office and come up with an official statement in a few days."

Balls of steel to run over commercial time and hold Silver's feet to a fire. In many ways, this was a softball question for anyone who cares and a trap for anyone who doesn't.

Honestly I don't get how this is something the NBA is responsible for. The NFL isn't responsible for all of those players murdering people are they?

[–] Available_Buddy69@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No.

But athletes are seen as example to children and teens. Just just want to be like them. Their heros.

They do stupid things, they are giving bad examples. If NBA and NFL dont do anything, to ppl this will be seen as " they dont see drugs, violence or theft as wrong" .

Jeffery Taylor is a swedish basketball player. He got convicted for domestic assault. He got a 24 game suspension in the NBA but a 1 year suspension from the Swedish national team. (I dont think he actually played for the national team again)

Chuck is absolutely goated.

Baad answer from Silver. Very limp.

But what about keeping the woman in check , who decided it ok to lay hands on ur significant other ? It’s a two way street buddy .

Adam Silver is a bitch. I’m not sure if he could have looked like more of a cumsock here.

[–] meat-head4@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Why does anyone expect this vampire looking motherfucker to have a good answer?

[–] AyyGM@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Chuck is a real one.

[–] datcheezeburger1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Chuck putting on a display of his journalistic chops, for all the jokes and horsing around I’m very glad to see him ask such an uncomfortable but necessary question

[–] cHinzoo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Great answer to an even better question. This shit should not be tolerated and it’s good to hear they’re doing what they can.

The weakest response

[–] StargazerNCC82893@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ja (deservedly) gets 25 games for being an idiot ,no actual crimes, yet we have multiple Domestic Abusers who are about to get real minutes during premier week and it's disgusting.

[–] YoungMoneyLarson57@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Kudos to Charles for asking that. Silver never expected it and didn’t have proper preparation for it as you can tell.

[–] jt_33@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Silver had no answer lol. Counseling so they know not to hit people when they lose a game and are stressed.. what a joke that is.

[–] ImNoSir@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Common sir Charles W.

Charles: so what are we going to do to stop this and take a stand?

Adam: yes

[–] pete-wisdom@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He actually answered that pretty well.

[–] truuuuueeee@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not only is Charles Barkley one of the best (the best?) media personality in basketball but he’s also a top 50 player, and one of the best rebounders ever. Dude is a walking W.

[–] The_Taskmaker@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Does anyone know how the NBA's domestic violence frequency compares with that of comparably high earners? I remember that being brought up in response to the NFL's consistently high domestic violence rates which are actually more or less in line with the average for people with comparable earnings.

I.e. this is a rich asshole thing, not an aggressive athlete thing. Posturing like athletes are disproportionately committing domestic violence is a disingenuous portrayal of the issue imo.

“You can’t put yo hands on those big ole women they got down in San Antonio.”

[–] General_Johnny_Rico@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

People can blame the league all they want, but they aren’t the people committing the crime, defending those who do, or continuing to watch and buy jerseys for the people who are.

The players, fans, and PA are the groups that enable this behavior, it’s just easier to blame the league.

[–] jawntothefuture@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

nice all around. I'm not a fan of Silver, but he handled that well. Chuck is the man. I don't always agree with him, but I damn well respect him

[–] FA_Off@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Let's be real though: it's not any more of a problem in the NBA than it is any other sports league, and it's not the NBA's job to police their players personal lives. The league would get nothing done if that's how they spent all of their time.

[–] Mental-Half-8877@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Adam Silver is a fantastic commissioner

I love Charles.

[–] Bonesawisready5@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Good job Charles
