Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Owning a domain name is still a reasonably good idea, but it was never a path to fame, even back then. A stepping stone, maybe, but even then, not strictly necessary.

Yahoo mail still exists - you can even set up a new one - but they got rid of the forwarding feature for free accounts a few years ago, so you actually have to make an effort to log in to the site and check. There's no way to access free mail accounts other than doing that. Of course, if you're willing to pay something, you can get forwarding back and maybe something like POP or even IMAP.

Of course, if you do pay, you'll be supporting some of the more questionable decisions made by Yahoo management.

I think the point of doing this first is not about getting fame, but to be ready for it. Once you are famous someone can claim the domain you wanted and hold it hostage so by doing this you don't have to deal with that later on.

There’s no way to access free mail accounts other than doing that.

There are many Android Apps that connect to yahoo through the web interface and retrieve your email so you can read it in a normal place.

I can access my mail on my yahoo address from fairemail on my phone and I'm not paying, isn't it through IMAP? I don't remember, the setup was very easy tho.

Get a good domain name

Uses a Yahoo email…

I see work vehicles driving around where they have spend hundreds of dollars or more to get a full wrap with fancy pictures and info and it has @gmail.com. And it's not a one off, but seems to be common. There must be a market gap in helping people get new owner operated companies set up with email at their own domain.

I know someone with a Juno.com email address.

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

**Juno Turbo Accelerated Dial-Up accelerates certain web page text and graphics when compared to standard dial-up internet service. Actual results may vary. Some web pages such as secure or encrypted web pages will not be accelerated. Juno Turbo Accelerated Dial-Up is not a broadband service and actual data transmission rates are not faster than standard dial-up internet service. Juno Turbo Accelerated Dial-Up may not be compatible with proxy based software services such as content filters or firewalls. Available only for Windows.

Wow.

There's a name I haven't heard in a while. My parents and older siblings had juno email addresses through our ISP way back in the day. If you check their website they're still not on https yet.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

I had a Juno email before I had internet...

You could modem directly to their server to send/receive mail without any other connection.

Twas a simpler time.

I have a yahoo email. I made it a while ago before i realized how bad it is and now i am stuck with a lot of accounts connected to an email that rarely receives emails

I can confirm yahoo still exists, and they're great for my junk mail since I don't have anything signed into it, it was made before you needed to link any personally identifying info so I think my name is still something like "fart boob" or something like that. 13 year old me thought it was hilarious.

Honestly if someone managed to hijack that account, either they'd quickly realize it was worthless or I'd be laughing as I tell them to have fun with their garbage, I'll be sending some more soon.

My mom received a phishing email a few days ago from a @bellsouth.net email address. A company that hasn't existed for about 20 years now.

My dad uses yahoo. On a Linux mint machine I do the maintenance on and keep trying to nudge him towards duckduckgo.

Yeah, I get that they're getting privacy issues too but the options seem to have gotten distilled down to privacy issues or a subscription fee I not only can't afford but probably still comes with privacy issues and definitely comes with AI bullshit.
