Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Language/ัะทั‹ะบ/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

After years of suffering under Microsoft's bugs, you're ready to have your own bugs no one can help you with.

I've switched to Debian GNU/Linux, because I figured out it's easier to manage than modern Windows anyways.

I've ended up taking notes on personal MediaWiki instance on various Unix/GNU commands, and various other stuff.

Also ended up finding 7 bugs (for now) mostly in APT/Aptitude and their documentation (didn't report them yet).

Don't mind me, I am just a self-diagnosed autist (lmao).

For those who aren't already aware, you can continue to get Windows 10 security updates after EOS, as well as updates for legacy windows systems, with 0patch. That's what I plan on doing. https://0patch.com/

I thought they specifically planned to end the security updates to force people to use win11

โ€œโ€ฆyou have the audacity to come to me for help?

Sure! Linux isnโ€™t nearly as difficult to use as people think. Thereโ€™s a learning curve since Linux does things differently than Windows, but youโ€™d face that if you switched to Mac, too. Hereโ€™s a USB disk with [insert user-friendly distro here] loaded on it. If you can make your computer boot with it you have all the skills necessary to install Linux. You can test-drive it from the USB and if itโ€™s just too different from what youโ€™re used to, it wonโ€™t have made any changes. Have fun!โ€

True story... Loaded Linux on my machine to learn. Dual boot wouldn't recognize Windows despite many efforts. Then Linux cinnamon crashed and i had to nuke the whole thing. Still won't deter me.

I'll just ask chatgpt instead of being told LMGTFY and RTFM

    [โ€“] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

why spend time googling dozens of half-related forum issues when chatgpt can average all those half-related issues in one plausible-looking reply. just think of the time saved.

Well of course, you're the eXpErT!

    [โ€“] DmMacniel@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can you draw 7 red lines strictly perpendicular some with blue ink and some with green ink, or not?

    [โ€“] DmMacniel@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's not rush into any hasty answers. The task has been set and needs to be carried out.

    [โ€“] dumbass@leminal.space 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I don't have green ink, will red rink suffice?

    How's this?

    [โ€“] DmMacniel@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

    Mhm....

why are some lines not red? The task was 7 red lines strictly perpendicular in the form of kittens. Some with blue ink some with green ink.
