Looking to purchase a watch for around 8k for myself. Currently looking at these 4 primarily but can’t decide. I am open to suggestion for other watches around 8k or below. Please let me know if any of these watches should be avoided for a specific reason. I am not really looking g to resell the watch later on so price retention or premium isn’t a concern for me. Thank you.

Omega for sure.

Buy a used Submariner and call it a day.

As an owner of both, I’d go Omega first and Cartier close second.

You have one Omega on the list and you have two chronos on the list but you don’t have the Omega speedy pro on the list? Sapphire sandwich, $8k MSRP can be found easily for 20% off from AD, $6500ish. To me, that’s better for every day than the other two chronos you have on the list.

Otherwise I’d pick the santos as it can bridge the gap from dressy on leather strap to sportier on the bracelet.

I'd buy 4 $2000 watches.

Squale Oris Hamilton Laco Seiko etc....

You'd have a spectacular collection and watches for all occasions.

Depending on your style, but for me I would be leaning towards either the top time or the seamaster, with the santos close behind. I would go with whichever most fits your style, though. Are you more outdoorsy? Seamaster. Are you more classy? Santos. Do you have a more chilled out and laid back vibe and own a Shelby? Breitling. Do you cook meth? The Tag.

These are all excellent watches, and they are all completely different in looks, function, and formality. It’s almost like asking if you should buy a Range Rover, an Audi, or a Harley.

I would try them all on, and just pick the one whose looks you like the best, and that you could most easily see yourself wearing every day. Your immediate instinct upon seeing them on your wrist will be 100x more valuable than the opinions of strangers.

I have the Cartier and an Omega. Prefer the Omega to be completely honest. Both are great watches though.

Are you looking for a chrono? A diver? Do you own or like Shelby’s? Is there one you’d feel more connected to or could get more daily use out of? Out of these 4, I’d say the Omega has the best movement and build quality. A top time would also be a good daily. Omega probably easier to dress up tho

The Omega all day, every day. It's the most versatile. You could rotate straps on it and it would suit any occasion. Go for it.

Monaco 👀

I'll get speedy if I were you, sapphire sandwich 3861. Or the all black seamaster 300. Santos looks meh IRL but well you got the brand caché with it. Breitling a bit rough on the movement, the feeling of winding it or operating chronograph is kinda rough not even mentioning the horror when it comes to servicing from what I've heard. If I were you I'd go add up 1.5k and get the Speedmaster 57 manual wind, either blue or green, in bracelet. Spectacular and robust movement, high chronometric performance, and thinner than the speedy moonwatch.

[–] teckel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Be warned, the Monaco wears large.

Cartier is my grail

[–] elevatedapproach@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Those are very different watches. Depends on who you are and what you're doing.

[–] _visiblemode_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Such different watches. I’d get the Seamaster. That said they all have merit. I love the Monaco, but to me that’s a watch that compliments an existing collection. The Seamaster can stand alone. Santos is iconic but a very particular look, but it could be a good move if you love it. The Breitling is nice but I’m not super hot on Breitlings, personally.

Omega all the way

[–] BruhCycle2137@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can’t go wrong with the smp, but I’ll suggest the bracelet version and just get the rubber strap individually.

[–] CoffeeWatchesCars@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’d say the seamaster if you asked me 3 years ago, the Monaco 6 years ago, Breitling a year ago and Santos today. So presences differs not only from person to person but also from time to time

[–] ickenham_fred@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They're all good watches. Get the one you like.

[–] Own-Artichoke-2026@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Omega, no doubt to me. I’d find this one easier to wear daily, the others would be for certain occasions so they wouldn’t get as much wrist time.

[–] jackbsyme2002@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Seamaster every time

[–] Single_Solution_9924@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I prefer santos as it is one of the best looking square watch in my mind

[–] yourefunny@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have always had a soft spot for the Cartier and it is on my list for next purchase.

[–] -Treebiter-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Which one do you look at and go ‘I must have you in my life’? If all of them, great - you can’t go wrong. If none if them have that level of emotive draw, don’t get any of them.

Regardless of personal finances, you shouldn’t buy a watch at any price bracket without actually really wanting what you’re buying.

[–] cjwhitey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For me, it’s the Santos and it’s not even close. If I had to pick a 2nd, I’d go with the Breitling.

[–] Archtects@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My favourite one is the tag. Prob not the most sensible choice but it live it

[–] Rbaltman409@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love the Santos--history, refinement, bracelet, bezel and Cartier is having a moment these days. Omega is second choice but they are very different and you should think about how often you will wear and in what circumstances. Cartier can be a pretty formal watch (it comes with leather strap usually) and can be dressed down. Hard to dress up the Omega much beyond being a diver.

[–] Comprehensive-Ad7776@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A friend of mine wears the Monaco as his EDW and loves it.

[–] AbbreviationsLost533@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Omega baby!!

[–] Prestigious_Pie1019@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Cartier is the best looking and classiest of the four.

[–] Prestigious_Pie1019@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Rolex explorer one is in your price range and the one to get if you can find one
