Hi all, I’m looking to purchase my first mechanical watch in the next couple of months and am seriously considering either the Hanhart 417 ES 42mm or Tudor Black Bay Chrono. I really love the reverse panda. The Hanhart is quite a bit cheaper than the Tudor but the Tudor has a few advantages such as 200m water resistance. Which would you choose?

Hanhart but I'd prefer the 39mm. Also, flyback is fun.

[–] Julioaqua@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Me too, 42 of too big... Not necessary..

[–] Tae-gun@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tudor, no question.

[–] lliphwets@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tudor all day every day. I’ve never liked the knurled bezels on the Hanharts. Not knocking it, but I like the Tudor a lot more.

[–] No_Impact_3870@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

hanhart is way better looking

[–] chewyicecube@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hamilton mech chrono!

[–] Synnie47@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

tudor black bay chrono for sure, it's a classic with great water resistance.

[–] ernapfz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart for sure! Love that coin edge bezel, so much more unique than that commonplace chrono bezel. The hands on the Hanhart are so much more stylish. I would never buy a Tudor just because of that huge snowflake hand. I just cannot ‘unsee’ it, lol. The field style numerals on the Hanhart are classic. Indices on the Tudor are diver and Rolex wannabes.

Hanhart by a mile on this one. Definitely a cooler piece.

[–] gratefulscape@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What’s Hanhart??

[–] Osobady@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart no question

[–] cardinalandgold@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tudor, but on bracelet, not on the bund

[–] BeeLuv@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart, wow that is nice.

[–] Zehcomputerguy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart, that dial is amazing.

[–] jcooper9099@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm a big Tudor fan but in this case the Hanhart is a better looking watch for my style.

[–] Charliekeet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Great choices both. I would get the Hanhart, because I like the bezel and markers better.

The water resistance is, for me, usually a persuasive way to choose, but not here, cause I’m not submerging either of those bad boys, so it’s moot.

[–] Klutzy-Check8977@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart for sure

[–] Coyote-Loco@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart. That’s a cool waych

[–] Wintermute_088@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like Tudor, but the Hanhart is one of the nicest chronos on the market. Love it.

The Black Bay Chrono just doesn’t work for me. I like the Hanhart a lot more, but would lose the bund straps on both

[–] Bliptown@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart. The chronograph Steve McQueen wore other than for the cameras.

I’m very much considering one soon too!

[–] Happy_Boy_29@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absence of date complication makes the Hanhart the clear winner for me.

[–] Khdiesel@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

In this case I like the Hanhart more, I don’t think the black bay snowflake handset translates well to a chrono

[–] mantellaaurantiaca@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Never heard of Hamhart. But it definitely looks better here.

[–] No-Scale1239@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you have to go with a bundt strap, definitely the Hanhart. If you want a watch with some cool heritage, also go with the Hanhart. You'll practically be Steve McQueen! But way not as cool because you're not actually Steve McQueen.

[–] CardboardGristle@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Easily the hanhart, it's got so much personality.

That Tudor looks like every other Tudor. I'm sure it's finished beautifully but it's just dull and uninspired.

[–] PruWaters@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d pick the Hanhart personally.

[–] gdanko@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart for sure. Lots of history behind that piece.

[–] Wh1tePo1nter@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Hanhart is more beautiful but the Tudor looks more solidly built. I fucking hate those leather straps btw.

[–] Designer-Ad-9373@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m a huge Tudor fan but that Tudor on that strap is a little too much tacticbro/gravy seal for me. But I would not buy the Hanhart either, that’s a little too tryhard fedora core.

For a chronograph? Hanhart hands down

I’ve had the panda version of this watch (in 39mm) for just on a year now. Still one of my absolute favourites. Fantastic watch. Tudors are great, but in this case for a chronograph I’d definitely go with the Hanhart.

They don’t make many of these either, so it’ll always be an unusual/enthusiast pick

[–] Julioaqua@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hello, there is a39 mm version of the hanhart...?

[–] Fancy_Fingers5000@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Hanhart is beautiful, but the Tudor’s water resistance is handy on a steel bracelet - if you use it too much in the water with leather strap you run the risk of dry rot and it falling off.

So Tudor on steel

Or

Hanhart save some money have a prettier watch and don’t wear it in the pool.

[–] serge_cell@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tudor looks better IMO and have highly advanced anti-magnetic movement (Breitling B01 modified with silicon hairspring) - instant date switch, vertical clutch. Hanhart is cost-effective and have rotating bezel which could be replacement for hours counter if you need it. Bit for the first mechanical chronograph I'd choose neither and would get something with open caseback. You got to see mechanics in action for first mechanical!

You mention 200m. Why is this important to you? I have a watch rated to 600m and take it off when I'm washing the dishes 😃 . Hanert all day.

[–] sockpuppetinasock@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hanhart by a mile. Flyback column wheel? This thing is amazing. It looks killer and it has high end features.

The Tudor does give you automatic (bi-directional) winding. It is also a vertical clutch, so no issues wearing out the clutch gear if used constantly.

But the Hanhart is more iconic. It isn't nostalgic retro like the BBC, it is just an updated version of a watch they have produced for almost a century.

What's more, the Hanhart has added utility. The "nail polish" pip can register hours if you're timing something longer than 30 minutes. Also the Hanhart has full lume hands and sub dials. Yes, it's one of the few true "night" chronographs out there.

The BBQ doesn't even come close.

Never heard of hanhart but wow that is a beautiful watch

I’ve never heard of Hanhart, but damn that looks nice

[–] howboutnow434@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t know anything about the quality of Hanhart, but boy that’s a beautiful dial. A lot more character while being simpler. Has a classic look.

[–] ElTalento@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you care about the movement, go for the Tudor. If you don’t or you don’t want to pay the cost of maintaining such a chrono, go for the Hanhart. Out of the two, the Hanhart looks better.

[–] AbuAlman@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I got the Hanhart by myself and i would highly recommend to go for the hanhart, it's truly a special watch which looks way better irl and it's a historical anniversary watch with crazy build (shockproof, flyback, shift wheel)

[–] tillterilltilltill@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I prefer the more modern look of the Tudor but the Hanhart looks great as well.

[–] Twigler@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] Bronzyroller@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love Hanhart pure classic but still killing it today especially with the AMT fly back movement.

[–] craigerstar@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can keep track of hours with the Hanhart by aligning the red mark with the hour hand when you start the chrono. Far smarter and more useful than the Tudor. Plus, IMHO, the snowflake hands are bunk.
