[–] treasonodb@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jesus fucking hell this is stupid.

[–] Atrium41@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The difference is historical figures vs fictional characters who only exist from imagination.

Nobody is casting Albert Einstein or George Washington as a black man....

[–] Aurify@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They've got a point.

[–] Jackson12ten@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Notice how all these are historical figures that actually existed and aren’t a fictional character where it doesn’t actually fucking matter?

[–] No-Skirt9973@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It was done very well in Hamilton.

[–] JOwenAK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean, there's a pretty big difference between a fictional character, like the Little Mermaid, being played by a black person and a real-life historical figure being played by a race that isn't there own.

Rassist Shitpost

[–] JonSwole@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do they not realize that there is a difference betweeen a character and a real person?

[–] idontevenknowher16@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I never understood this cheap and tacky criticism. It’s just right-wing rhetoric to clown on “snow flakes” and “progressives.” Literally since the existence of cinema, white people have played POC characters. And no one ever batted an eye until POC validly criticize how it’s dehumanizing and racist to do such castings.

With the whole black people playing white people roles, what you’re big mad bc a talented and beautiful woman of color is playing the little mermaid.? The little Mermaid was a magical and mystical fictional character!? It’s so bizarre and weird

[–] Nouseriously@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

John Wayne played Ghengis Khan

[–] RLoge85@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They already went "woke"with the first Tim Burton Batman movie where Billy Dee Williams was Harvey Dent.

[–] LtCptSuicide@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Okay, like obviously whoever made the meme is dumber than a half built toaster.

But honestly I'd watch a movie with Christian Bale as Obama. I feel like it'd end up making a great satirical dramatic comedy.

Chuds not realizing the Panderverse special was also making fun of them challenge impossible*

[–] TheDevilsCunt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is this sub just a bunch of edgy losers? It’s been watered down to screenshots of “end wokeness” ?? Pathetic

Never thought I'd post this link twice in the same day, but here we are.

I unironically want to see Mark Wahlberg play Ali

[–] cocoon_eclosion_moth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In the new Toy Story, Woody is going to be a black sheriff

[–] Ok-Rain3650@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Anthony Hopkins would be a stellar Mandela tho.

[–] Thesilphsecret@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lmaooooo so cringe. Imagine being the type of person who pretends not to be capable of recognizing the difference between portraying an action icon superhero with a different skin-tone in a reboot/adaptation and portraying an historical civil rights figure in a way that directly conflicts and contradicts their life story. I get that the woke crowd can be pretty annoying, but I'll never understand why the anti-woke crowd is always pretending to be less intelligent than they are. I think anybody with half a brain can see the difference between making Obama white and making Ariel black lmao. Imagine thinking that pretending to be denser than you are makes your argument appear stronger lol.

[–] Omegaprimus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yup, heres another asshole that didn’t watch the special and listened to someone else talking about how it ended woke. If you watched the special you would see the pandering isn’t the problem, it’s doing the same shit you previously had done and change the character. It’s fucking lazy writing, just a reheating the same shit with a sprinkled in change. Also the ouroboros of Kathleen Kennedy going more pandering because of cartman becoming more hateful because of the pandering was the chef’s kiss.

[–] DetectiveExpress8250@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Id lowkey watch a movie about Christian Bale playing Obama, especially after seeing how he basically transformed himself into Dick Cheney for the movie Vice.

It would certainly be an interesting movie given his history of being a method actor, so to see him to go full on Robert Downey Jr and transform himself into Barack Obama for the role, i think it would make for an entertaining enough movie lol.

[–] D__91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah but these are/were real people though. And they had historical influence. Not quite the same as fictional characters don’t you think?

[–] JohnWickisBehindU@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The last samurai, starring Tom Cruise

[–] Not-The-NSA2023@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Actually this was pretty common, that’s why John Wayne played Ghengis Khan

[–] Practical-Jelly-5320@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is stupid no movie has changed a histoic figures race

[–] Vanir_Scarecrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This would be awesome! They made Green Lantern Black, and they made many other established characters black rather than make new character that are engaging and interesting.
