I am interested in picking up a Speedmaster reduced. I have found countless articles describing the differences between the reduced and the professional but not much on the differences between the reduced models themselves. Any subject matter experts who can describe the meaningful differences between reduced models? Also, how might an amateur collector tell one reduced model from another?

You're looking at the 3510.50 or the upgraded 3539.50
Now the latter will cost ya about an extra $1,000, if that is a deal-breaker... stop reading and go with the 3510.50
If you want to know what the money is getting you - sapphire crystal, better bracelet/clasp, more water resistance, same movement.
How to tell which if it's not listed? The cheaper one will have number at every 5 minute hash around the dial, the 3539.50 just has the hashes.

This is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks!

For the ones that resemble the Moonwatch, there are two references

  1. 3510.50.00. This is the first version. Hesalite crystal, 5-minute Arabic numerals at the indices.
  2. 3539.50.50. This is the "second generation," was only made for a few years. Sapphire crystal. No Arabic numerals. Slightly upgraded clasp on the bracelet. Improved water resistance.

So the main choice points are

Hesalte vs sapphire?

Arabic numerals or not?
