Totally depends on the individual server settings.

Any norms/defaults?
Can't tell you specifics, but etiquette right now is to try and host elsewhere and link instead, on account of the rapid scaling hosts will be going through right now.
I know.
Was just curious.
It has been suggested to upload to the appropriate fediverse applications, PeerTube, FunkWhale, CastPod, Pixelfed, then link.
Wonder if people have considered automatically forwarding to them, or using them to archive old media.
You mean, like automatically uploading videos to PeerTube from the Lemmy UI? Yep, that would be nice to have at some point. I'd guess it's not a priority right now.
The default Docker nginx file specifies 20mb: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/blob/0.17/docker/nginx.conf
Wonder if a feature to allow admins to set different upload perms to users who have distinguished themselves to different extents and have their max size scale based on server demand would be helpful if it hasn’t been implemented yet.
Might help lighten the strain from these kinds of events.
