Groceries can't be subsidized by stealing your data.

Reninder to check with price history before falling for black friday "sales". Companies ramp up the price just one month before to offset the reduction.

[–] Goudewup@lemmy.dbzer0.com 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Companies even produce special black Friday models of things where they cheap out on everything to reduce costs and not have to discount their regular wares

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Joke's on them. I'm still rocking the TV my brother bought on Black Friday 2011.

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 days ago

Keepa browser extension for Amazon is quite handy, even if you don't order from Amazon and just want to compare prices

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't get the rhyme scheme here.

Rhyme scheme for last chorus of Stan by Eminem ft. Dido.

Groceries can't subsidize their cost by harvesting and selling all your activities

This is the year I can buy a good TV (any other things) for the first time in my life. Been on long term sick leave for 15 years but recently got increased economical support, including a big retroative payment from may till this month. Just ordered a Steam Deck, something I've been dreaming of having for years, some nice headphones and waiting till black friday to get a nice TV. Groceries here in Sweden haven't increased that much, my monthly cost is about the same as before but I've just had to replace some products for the few things that have gotten noticeably more expensive, really no difference to complain about.

Anyway, I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED!! Been living with hand me downs for most tech, got a shitty laptop from 2011 and a shitty 1080p TV with horrible contrast, color and it gets so damn warm, my headphones are falling apart. I never thought this all could happen at once, it's like a full life upgrade.

[–] teslekova@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Enjoy it, my friend. In a similar situation. Had money for the last year for the first time in my life. It is amazing, in some ways, how weird it is to buy something like a laptop new.

[–] redballooon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Congratulations.

Can you effort groceries though?

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They wouldn't be able to afford the tech if they couldn't.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I know lots of people who are undernourished with a big TV.

You can buy a 60" 4K TV for like 200 bucks now. That's less than a grocery store trip for many people.

[–] nehal3m@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Happy for you, enjoy the fuck out of it!

[–] KombatWombat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

You likely can find comparable prices to Black Friday around February or so. There are often new models coming out in the spring, so they try to liquidate the old models.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not like black Friday sales have been worth shit since COVID anyway.

[–] nastronot@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Or ever. I’ve never seen anything but chaos on Black Friday. It’s crafted to push impulse purchases for the sake of a “crazy deal”

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Eh, I do remember them being very worthwhile back in ye olden days. I remember my parents getting an amazing looking plasma TV back in maybe 2009-2010 era for south of $150 on a black friday deal, back when flat screens were still exorbitantly expensive in most cases. Same for computers and a lot of toys too.

Now it's all like "we just raised our prices last week, now there's 5% off WOWWEEE!

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Even back then, they would only stock a handful of the sale items, so you had to be lucky or aggressive to get one. If you missed out, though, they had this much more expensive item they just jacked up the price on you could buy instead.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

I love the implication that this ends with a grocery CEO drowning in a car trunk

[–] reksas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

gullible friday more like

[–] ynthrepic@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Over their bankrupt bodies.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't have a big TV. Never felt like I needed one. Never had space for it. Now that they're all spying on people, I never want to be even near one.

[–] gray@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

I bought a big tv recently, it sucks. Old movies and my Nintendo switch games looks awful on it. Do not recommend.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

Apparently this is the key to "there is not that much inflation".
