Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

This is the article that you need to send when people are spreading the “don’t vote for Biden because Palestine” shit. First off, it’s the country that’s in bed with Israel, not just this president, secondly, trump will be 10x worse on Palestine, not to mention civil rights for endangered populations at home, but mostly, we cannot afford Republican climate policy right now. We just can’t. There won’t be any Palestinians left to brag to about how you didn’t vote because those that don’t die in the war will surely die in the coming water and livable lands wars. This is not the time to fuck around with a petulant wannabe dictator doing everything he can to erode the country’s safeguards against tyranny and pump as much CO2 into the atmosphere as humanly possible.

So basically in terms of climate policy: USA Biden is better then Trump. India does not matter as nobody is really changing current policies. EU is probably going to the right, but the parliment does not have too much power, so it probably does not matter that much. Russia Putin wins. Indonesia does not matter who wins, it will get worse.

So basically only the US elections really matter in terms of climate.

I find it quiet absurd to even call whatever Putin does an election.
