Ludum Dare (programming.dev)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/community_request@programming.dev

A community for discussion and posting things relating to ludum dare (game jam)

The ludum dare host has a mastodon account to share updates there but theres no space on lemmy for it yet

Normally for a game jam there wouldnt really be enough content to justify a new community but ludum dare has a pretty active community so it can get a nice amount of content every time one rolls around (with things like updates from the host, games shared by participants, the score chasers tournament, stats, etc.)

Apologies if this isn't the right community for this question, but is there a preference for specificity of requested communities?

For example, is it better to submit a request for /c/SpecificTechnologyOrLanguage or /c/CategoryOfTechnology?

The community is mostly inspired from the Pangora posts. I felt like a community for projects in general might be interesting.

Linux Upskill Challenge (programming.dev)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by livialima@programming.dev to c/community_request@programming.dev

I'm interested in moving r/linuxupskillchallenge here to continue to give support and discussion for those following the month-long "Linux Upskill Challenge" course. The material covers the skills required to sysadmin a remote server from the commandline.

url: linuxupskillchallenge

name: Linux Upskill Challenge

It's a tightly modded community already in the channels we have available, so I'd be happy to mod it here too.

Battlestations (programming.dev)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/community_request@programming.dev

A place to post and show off your desktop setups.

Theres a battlestation community on lemmy.world but as lemmy.world doesnt federate with some instances that participate here figure it makes sense to make one here and to give an alternative community for people to participate in other than the one in lemmy.world (like we did with programmer humor and lemmy.ml)

Upvote if youre interested in having it here. If you want to be a mod reply saying so below

  • slug: battlestations
  • name: Battlestations

iOSProgramming (programming.dev)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/community_request@programming.dev

A community for discussing programming ios apps

I've reached out to one of the moderators of r/iOSProgramming to see if they want to moderate it but even if not I figure it makes sense to have an ios community in here

If the iosprogramming mods don't want to moderate it ill make a post looking for mods and will act as a temp mod until it gets a dedicated one

Show-off (programming.dev)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by dwraf_of_ignorance@programming.dev to c/community_request@programming.dev

I want a community that is somewhere between c/cool_github_projects and r/InternetIsBeautiful where people can show off their creation whether it is open source, closed source, website, mobile app or even a complicated bash script to automate their work. Anything goes here. I would also like people to post what they found, even if they didn't make it. But it can be discussed.

  • url: showoff
  • name: Show-off

I would rather have someone else mod it, but if anyone isn't down for it I can mod it until someone else volunteers.

Pretty sure there isn't one already on the list. Thought it could be a fun idea to get people active and talking. Was thinking one each of an easy, medium and hard challenge. Originally thought daily, but people might not have time and I wouldn't want it to just end up as spam posts people ignore.

url: weekly_programming_challenge
name: Weekly Programming Challenge

I do not want to moderate it. Also if someone with actual exp and skillz could, that'd be awesome.

Ty and have a wonderful day~!

Dev community about programming for Panic’s Playdate portable console.

Nearest example of similar community is “r/PlaydateDeveloper”.

I can moderate it. It would also be great if people from Panic could moderate ( @playdate@panic.com , @panic@panic.com ).

url: pcj

name: Programming CircleJerk

I hope the url is ok, seemed too long to spell it out, and the goal isn't to be too discoverable anyway.

Anyway, this was the best community to discuss ridiculous ideas in the programming world and vent out your frustrations through three layers of irony.

I enjoy helping users that are new or not very proficient in Linux with questions they may be chastised for asking elsewhere. This will be a safe space to ask anything regarding Linux without being made to feel dumb.

  • url: linux4noobs

I'd be happy to mod.
