For Hire

Posts and Comments

1. NO REQUESTING OR OFFERING FREE WORK
2. Budgets/rates are required for all posts, both [Hiring] and [For Hire]
3. Obnoxiously low budgets and offers (anything under $15/hr) are not allowed
4. No commission-based jobs unless you offer a base salary ($15/hr or more)
5. Do not use personal stories to gain sympathy, lower rates, get hired, etc.
6. Pay in currency, not equity or barter
7. No bounties, competitions, or speculative work – see nospec.com
8. Nothing illegal in Canada (or anywhere else).
9. No affiliate, referral, or job board links
10. No buying or selling comments, votes, followers, etc.
11. No hiring students to post on .edu domains
12. No use of bots to contact users for any purpose
13. Paid internships are allowed if they pay >$15 per hour. Unpaid internships are not allowed.
14. No academic posts at all. No essays, no tutoring, no homework help.
15. No intangible or metaphysical services (hypnotism, tarot readings, astrology, spiritual healing, etc.)

Posts

1. Do not post more than once per 7 days unless your [Hiring] ad is for a different position
2. Low-quality posts will be removed
3. No image-only or link-only posts – all posts must be text posts with the details in the body

Comments

1. Apply by direct message or another private channel, not in the comments. Do not leave comments saying you're interested, that you've sent a DM, or asking anyone to contact you privately. Comments are for public discussion.
2. No personal attacks or ad hominem arguments

If you're Hiring

1. Prefix your title with [Hiring]
2. Put the basics in the title: What's the job? Where is it located (or is it remote)?
3. Be specific. Include a job description, requirements, and how you want to be contacted in the post body
4. Consider including a required keyword in your post to weed out spammers and people who didn't read your ad
5. Do not include any EEOC protected statuses

If you want to be hired

1. Prefix your title with [For Hire]
2. Your account must be older than 1 month with recent, regular activity on the fediverse. There is also an undisclosed minimum reputation requirement. Farming activity or votes just to post here is not allowed and will result in a ban. Do not contact mods for an exception – doing so will result in a ban.
3. Put the basics in the title: What do you do? Where can you do it (or remote)?
4. Be specific – include a portfolio or resume (or a link to one) in the post body
5. Single freelancers only – teams and agencies should post elsewhere.

Other

1. Mods will absolutely not facilitate communication or resolve disputes between users. Both sides should insist on a mutual contract that protects both parties.
2. Much of the communication happens via DM, so don't be discouraged if you don't see a lot of public commenting.
3. Consider using an escrow service for payments.
4. Use post flair to mark your listing as filled or closed so people don't keep contacting you.
5. Do not run software from strangers unless you are certain you can trust them. Use sandboxing or the proper tools if unsure.
