I really like aesthetic and unique headphones. And I enjoy collecting them. Do you all know of any unique looking ones? I like the look of standard headphones, sure. But I would like to see some that would stick out in a collection. Thank you!

Does anybody know which audio-technica’s most of Molly Tuttle’s crew are using in this video of San Joaquin?

In short: the treble of the hifiman edition xs is hella piercing, especially for edm track. Is this a feature of the headphones or defective?

So i just got the hifiman edition xs yesterday, and damn, it is such a surreal experience compared to the dt 770pro i had. Everything sounds way too clear - i can even listen to the bass player in a well recorded metal song. I didnt even plug it into an amp, yet the bass rumbled much lower than the dt 770 pro. It seems that edition xs is only a bit harder to drive than the dt 770 pro, so i suppose i dont need an amp. However, when it comes to high notes in edm track like a future bass song, the edition xs just sounds so harsh that i just cant stand it. Well, it doesnt really sound crackly to me, its just overly peaky. Is it a common thing for the edition xs? And the wire it provided sucks.

Is there any way to make the Bathys larger? I have both arms extended as far as they will go, but I'm still feeling a lot of pressure at lower end of my ears. It feels like the cup isn't centered on my ears and isn't very comfortable. If I could get 1 more "click" on each side I think they would fit OK.

They sound great so I'm really hoping to find a way to adjust them larger, if not I am going to have to return them. I am coming from a old pair of Bose QC 35IIs. With those, I can put them on and forget that they are on. With the Bathys, I am constantly reminded that there is something that just doesn't fit.

My sound settings preference for life can be summed up with one simple phrase: Treble on 10, bass on 7. The treble all the way up and bass mid-to-high is where I’ve always been.

I finally found my perfect headphones. Golden eared critics be damned. One man’s pyrite is another man’s gold. The perfect headphones for me are the HD 600. I only wish it didn’t take me until my 50s to find them.

If you have lived your life with the treble on 10 and the bass on 7 like me, HD 600 might be perfect for you too.

Thank you for getting me, Sennheiser.

Title

Plugged in headphones into my laptop and wondered why old Beatles panning was so fucking bad, when I went to test it on my phone and realized that I had mono turned on. Funny I did not even notice considering I obsess over mono vs stereo mixes as a vinyl collector and always search for dedicated mono mixes on Spotify, and I did not even notice the difference with all my stereo tracks being folded. The funny thing is, I think I may enjoy mono more? I find my focus to the core of the song diminished and replaced by my attention pivoting to extra details all over the left and right channels. Should I just return to the cave, or embrace the brave, new world of stereo technology?

Edit: Goddam, the Cranberries sound fucking incredible in stereo

Edit 2: Omg, so do the Cocteau Twins

Edit 3: Cream, Anri, Aphex Twin... so good. Jazz trio and some sixties rock stuff sounds meh however like Kinks and Seeds. Early Dylan sounds awful.

Hey there!

I have a Dt 900 PRO X connected to a soundblaster Z card and use peace equalizer for EQ. Not gonna lie, I live the sound. everything is perfect for me. I only care about playback, music, movies games and mixing
but I've always wondered would something like a scarlett 2i2 solo provide a sound upgrade? or any external dac/amp for that matter
Or is my internal sound card enough. If i have a way of making my sound even more awesome then it is now i would love to

Thanks everyone!!

I like in ear monitors but I can't stand to wear them for a long time

they sound good but I can never get them to fit perfectly no matter what I do and after all my ears start to hurt after wearing them for about 30 minutes especially my right ear after an incident happened with my right ear and when I first started getting into this hobby I started with Iem because they were budget-friendly

does anyone else have this problem

I have a headset that supports bluetooth and 3.5 jack. To my surprise the audio quality is better when using bluetooth and poor when using wire to the same source. I have also tried using USB-C cable but still bluetooth sounded better. By sound better I mean the audio is more louder and richer. How is it wireless blueooth offers superior quality than wired connection? Can this be expected?

I love the sound of these headphones, but whenever I put them on and start listening to them, it feels like the left side is very slightly louder than the right side.

I'm going to try to exchange them. But right now I'm using my Panasonic RP-HD300BT. Such a beautiful sounding set of headphones. They aren't as clear and open/spacious as the Senns, but they still sound great.

Hi, to preface this, I’m am not an audiophile and entirely new to the concept of HiFi audio.

I’ve owned a pair of Philips SHP9500 for a while now and am satisfied with the sound. They sound good to the point that I can’t imagine what a better sounding pair of headphones would sound like. The music is clear and detailed from what I can tell. My pair of qc35 has more bass but I would say sound similar, although I’ve never listed to them side by side.

I’ve done a 128 bitrate vs 360 bitrate vs lossless audio test and to be honest I can barely tell the difference between 128 and 360. In a real world scenario I would Never notice if my audio suddenly switched between the two.

Anyways,

This holiday season I decided to spend some money on nicer headphones and ordered Sennheiser 6XX with a Topping DX1 amp/dac.

They haven’t come in yet but I’ve been looking around the internet trying to gauge the difference in the listening experience that I am going to have (if any) but I’m not really finding anything. Both headphones have good reviews and according to rtings.com, the 6xxs have comparable characteristics, if not worse in certain areas. Even some extremely expensive headphones that are apparently known for their sound, have very similar ratings.

My question is: Is hifi audio purely down to preference? Will the average person have any chance of distinguishing higher quality audio? Was there any point in me upgrading my headphones?

Background: I’ve had the Bathys for a week and the AirPods Max for a year. I edit reality tv as my job. I listen to music from Apple Music Lossless

AirPods Max are the better ANC(make flying so much better)and watching movies on my laptop or iPad(I’ve got a dope bath tub and love watching movies while enjoying a bubble bath, come at me). The surround sound is dope and I can barely hear the tub filling up.

Bathys just sound beautiful! You hear new details in music you’ve never heard before(I heard a crackle in Stairway to Heaven that I thought was a mistake from the headphones. Nope it’s from the original recording just masked by worse headphones). These headphones make me want to listen to music all day long. And then you use DAC mode and it gets even better!! The anc seems to be ok but I haven’t tested it out and about .

The AirPods Max are great headphones. But my ears are open and I can’t go back to what I realize now was kind of fatiguing sounds from the max.

Size wise is another story the Bathys are comical in size. Like you look in the mirror and you just look kind of dumb. I noticed none of the Bathys images from focal show what these look like straight on. You look like a cyberman from doctor who.

I’m glad I have both headphones as they now serve different jobs. Max, movies and plane rides. Bathys, music music music.

I will say, I'm a noob so you veterans will have your own opinions. Just got Clear MGs on sale ($959 on Amazon renewed, I was nervous they would be scratched but I would never have known they were not brand new, even the little plastic protectors on the zipper pulls were intact).

Other cans include: Sony XM4, Audeze Maxwell, Focal Bathys. I like all of them, but I liked the Bathys so much I decided to give one of Focals big boys a try.

I can't describe the sound accurately, but the dynamics, clarity, and just tone is a noticeable step up. First open backs so I can see what people are talking about with the space/staging. I know there are other headphones that do many things better, but I'm sure I'm keeping these. It doesn't hurt that they are gorgeous to behold and are probably the fanciest thing I have ever purchased.

I'm doing a back to back with the Bathys on Dac mode (Apple Music Lossless) and the Clear MGs. I will say the Bathys are still pretty dang good and very capable of transporting you to "music land" if you are not actively trying to be analytical. That said, the Clears are a noticeable step up in clarity, resolution, and dynamics. Damn.

I ordered a ifi Gryphon but it hasn't come yet. I'm using a Volt 2 Audio Interface that I have for recording. Not high grade audiophile gear, but it does support max resolution and seems to be powering the cans just fine. That said, I've never had anything better to compare to.

Thanks to this forum for motivating me to pull the trigger. Can't afford anything like this for awhile, but I don't think I'll need to!

For reference, I’m 19 and I’ve just ordered a pair of sennheiser momentum 4s. I want to know what I can do to protect my ears as much as possible. I put my iPhone volume capacity at 75dbs and only put my headphones at about 95% volume at that rate, but I heard it’s not entirely accurate and some songs can still go over the limit

I want to say I’m completely new to this and an absolute amateur but I would be very thankful and appreciative of any help

Hello. I am listening Sennheiser HD660s connected to Mac Air M1. I like the sound. I tried Zen dac v2 and Mojo 2 but only observd small difference in bass. Do I really need external amp and need to listen a longer time to feel a difference?

222

My main gear currently are an Ifi Zen DAC and some nice Hifiman 4xx plugged into them.

No matter what, I keep coming back to these two. I have other gear, not this is the one that pleases me the most. It is not my endgoal, but it's superb to my ears.

A year ago, I got my first nice IEMs. The Entymotic ER3SEs and they are awesome. I bought them on Adorama for a steal. The IEMs led me down a dongle dac rabbit hole and I ended up with the iBasso DC06 and a few months later the new iBasso DX03 Pro.

Staying in the theme of cheap and switching to headphones, I managed to get a renewed HD560S, and then a b-stock HE400SE. I was using the DC06 to power the headphones for my computer but the sound kept cutting out; apparently an issue on PC. It was really really annoying for competitive gaming. A month ago I upgraded to the new SMSL DL200.

I legit thought I was done, good enough. But last week someone posted about the Focal Elegia, and I could resist picking up an open box pair. The idea that I could try some originally $900 headphones for a fraction of the price was too hard to pass. And then... I really screwed up because before my Elegia were even delivered I noticed Adorama had an awesome deal on the HD800S. I knew that Adorama occasionally drops the HD800S to just above 1100 once or twice a year, and Black Friday/cyber monday got the best of me.

So now I really have too much, I need to recoup some money. I figure I can just keep the HD800S for gaming and use the Elegia for everything else. I'll keep my ER3SEs and just use the DC03Pro.

So I've got an HD560S with a New Fantasia 4.4 balanced cable, a HE400Se with a New Fantasia 4.4 balances cable and a iBasso DC06.

How much is this stuff worth and where do I sell it? eBay?

Don’t you find that the sound of your footsteps create a ‘whomp whomp’ sound as you walk which is transmitted and amplified when wearing headphones? I notice it especially when wearing my AirPod Pros when I create a proper seal. It’s better if I loosen them slightly but then the sound isn’t as good. I tried my Yamaha YHL700A which were a lot better, particularly with ANC on, but I still felt I could notice it when walking in hard surfaces. I can turn up the music to compensate but partly I love these Yamahas because of their full sound at low vol.

I’m not stomping about or anything so just wondering if it’s just me or not because I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone mention it before.
