Unionizing after the game is done is the wrong time, but I wish them the best.
Having the game on the horizon is actually a very good position for the employees for two reasons:
Pre-orders. Rockstar already secured $3 billion, so they don't have the argument that compensation is unfair (why they were wanting to unionize to begin with along with work hours).
(The big one) Pre-Launch Strike. There still is a LOT of damage that could be done to GTA6 especially given the pre-orders. If they strike before November, GTA6 would go without day 1 patches. Whatever state it is in prior to strike is how it will stay during the highest review and revenue period for the game. It would mess with marketing and potentially even push off release by months which would hit their stock price hard.
They're trying to win recognition before the game launches, not after. Regardless, there's never a wrong time to form a union.
They started earlier but Rockstar fired a bunch of them..at least from what I have read
You can bet the game is not "done" as Rockstar will be milking the the new GTA online for years to come.
But I agree that it really hurts their leverage.
This is a moment where workers have a lot of leverage.
Agreed, rockstar could just decide to fire them all. I still think they should fight for their rights, but it'll be a tough time. Consumers are not known for fighting for others, and will gladly buy GTA 6 regardless of how this turns out
