You don't have to use big tech chat apps, or social media. Or even any site with "age verification" (real id).
Just stop using it. I have no idea why people think they have to use these things.
That's a naïve stance. OP is even talking about the process of it worsening. That means, what happens when sites that don't implement age verification aren't reachable anymore? Be that because they have simply been outlawed, because VPNs have become unfeasible or even because states will implement a firewall similiar to China? "Just don't go there bro" doesn't cut it.
I was born without the internet and I can die without it too. Perhaps using some bank apps I guess. Some things are required. Most are not.
But sure, I would love if people could do something, but we never can.
Brother, you just communicated to us via Lemmy. Think about what you are saying.
What device are you using that banking app on? Cause it's gonna be Apple or Android and none of the de-googled things either. With what account?
Want to apply for a job? When did you do that the last time without it requiring the internet?
Rent a place to live? Better fill out some forms online.
Want to travel internationally? Where are you getting your tickets?
Face it, you might have been born without the internet but it has become an absolutely essential part of a normal, daily life.
If banking is your one issue, back in the day, Kevin Mitnick recommended just buying the cheapest new Chromebook you could find, and using it exclusively for banking. ZERO other uses. Never browse the web with it. Just boot it, do your banking, and shut it off, then leave it secured at home.
