Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

I have a house where I have dumb light switches (eu). I would like something like a relay, that support dimming, that I can place behind the dumb switches. Preferably zigbee. What's is the best option for this? And is it even possible to add a dimmable relay behind a dumb on off switch? I would think so but I'm no expert.

The Shelly dimmer 2 is great. If it’s a dumb on off switch you can still dim either from the Shelly app (cloud based), the local web interface of the Shelly, or something like home assistant. The Shelly is WiFi based, but it can work just fine even if the WiFi is down and you can tell it to broadcast it’s own network if you want to get to it when the network is down.

Or flash it. Or even use it with the stock firmwhere but firewall off from the Internet so you can only control it with something like the web interface or home assistant.
