Hey everyone.

My whole life I've been ambitious and a hard worker, but for whatever reason during my bachelors I became extremely interested in academic psychology and research. I worked hard, got into a PhD program, and have even published a couple papers. But I feel depressed honestly and also bored. I'm unhappy in the program and I feel like my ambition is being wasted on a process that is slow, tedious, and perhaps not very consequential.

I have several ideas for apps and websites that I would like to devote my time to. I want to be a business owner and chase after my ideas and goals. I am about to take my qualifying exams and I could leave with my masters degree after. I'm perhaps only 1.5 years away from finishing my PhD, so it seems like kind of a waste...but I just want to get on with my life. I do NOT think being a professor is for me. I feel like I could get a decent job with just my masters, and after 5 PM I could devote all my energy to my app/website ideas.

Thoughts? Am I being foolish here?

Finish your PhD, it will be so much easier to raise money, market your startup and be taken seriously as Dr rather than drop out.
