Lots of food available where Jimothy lives, but hard to see how he isn't at a disadvantage with the coyotes in the area.

It's not that they're atypical prey for coyote, it's that Coyotes are atypical in urban areas. It's not impossible for one to get him, not impossible for one to be in the city, just not a typical situation.
