Saw it a few days ago in theaters and loved it. It's not literally perfect but it hits in all the right ways. The last hour of the movie blew me away.
Totally different opinion here. I didn't like it at all. Poor rythm with some scenes being way too short, some way too long. The last hour was really boring with no surprise.
I didn’t like it as much as well. I have no issues with the writing or casting. All my criticism is with Nolan’s execution. Starting with Tenet, then Oppenheimer, he has this new habit of using quick jumpcuts, which I guess he uses for creating tension and suspense, but it just feels like rushing instead. At least let some scenes linger so they can breathe.
I also didn’t feel like the IMAX format wasn’t used to its full potential. I only really felt the scale of things whenever they were running on a beach. The final voyage of his crew felt like it was shot in a studio, which it probably was vs the daylight shots. The sacking of Troy looked like they were fighting in a theme park, not a walled fortress city.
And lastly, as usual, the sound. Like holy shit, can Nolan be bothered to at least turn down the music a notch or two when people are talking? Maybe it was just my theater, but I think I missed at least 20% of the dialogue.
Hm, I did not enjoy Tenet because of the sound mixing but felt like these problems were mostly gone with Oppenheimer and Odyssey. Yes the Sound in Odyssey was too loud at times, especially in the cave scenes. It pushed the cinemas speaker system and my ears to its limits (it was no Imax). But never in a way that I could not understand what anyone was saying.
It's nice to see another person with similar criticisms of Nolan. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy with how much his films continue to be glazed despite going radically downhill within the last decade. The last three have all been bad, and the problems that make them bad films are getting worse, but it feels like barely anyone else notices these very obvious trends (beyond the sound mixing which is a meme at this point).
Meanwhile, I pretty much only see criticism of Tenet online, especially for its sound mixing. But it's my favourite film of his, which is hard to say because I love Prestige, Interstellar, and Inception.
Tenet definitely copped a lot more. There was no cultural movement to save that film like there was with Oppenheimer (Barbenheimer) or The Odyssey (culture wars).
I've been meaning to rewatch it some time at home. I've only seen it the once; in the cinema where I couldn't understand rhe dialogue.
Fortunate to live in one of the few places on Earth that can show the proper 70mm version. Tickets were sold out nearly four weekends from its debut. Partner and I are going next weekend, and I'm so stoked.
I sold a dead center seat at 70mm near me for $150. Love supply and demand.
Bragging about scalping is certainly a take.
I bought the ticket over a year ago and friends couldn’t go that day so we went a different day. What I do with tickets I buy is my choice. More so is the market that paid for it.

That's what every scalper says, doesn't really matter if it's tickets, playstations, or protective equipment during a pandemic. The market's willing to pay the price! I'm just providing the valuable service of buying it first so I can extract profit.
