That "diehard majority" was a few thousand votes in the most recent election. The one before that, they actually weren't the majority - Alberta had an NDP government.

Insisting that Alberta is eternally UCP will only help make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

they are busy gerrymandering the new district borders so that they won't need the majority vote to stay in government.

Gerrymandering can push the needle but it can't hold back the tide. It can actually backfire if the projections that the gerrymanderers were working with turn out to be inaccurate, since it's specifically "betting" on a particular arrangement of votes.

It's also not happening yet. The party voted for it and is now trying to gerrymander for sure, but the courts do not favour the UCP on this matter saying if challenged it'd be likely the UCP loses marking it unconstitutional. Especially with the separatist PsyOP going on I don't get the impression the currently employed judges like UCP very much given their comments lately.

Pretty specific cutoff date there. Look at the full history of elections in Alberta, there was a run of PC governments in that specific window that you've conveniently specified but before that the political landscape was completely different. And in recent history too, it's unstable.

But if you want to write the province off and permanently leave it to conservatives, that's a choice I guess.
